I installed retropie on my ubuntu laptop using the following tutorial: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/RetroPie-Ubuntu-16.04-LTS-x86-Flavor

      I am running Ubuntu 16.10.

When I first installed retropie, this problem didn't exist. At some point, maybe a week later, this started happening.

Whenever I load an emulator for the first time (from emulation station), I have to provide my password. When I exit that emulator, I have to enter my password again to return to emulation station. This seems to happen once-per-session of emulation station, once-per-emulator. So, for example, if I go through this entire process once for SNES (entering the password to launch the game, and then again to return to emulation station) then I don't have to do it again for any SNES games until I restart emulation station. I still have to do it for any other system I load.

Here is what I've tried to do to fix it:

      1. "Repair Permissions" from the retropie config menu
      2. Manually check permissions on roms - all directories are 775 and roms are 664, owned by the user running emulation station.
      3. Uninstalling and reinstalling retropie.

I don't know what else to do. It's pretty annoying to have to type the password like this. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

@JoshuaD try to disable sudo password request, as explained here:

So I've tried this and it won't work for me, am I saving wrong with visudo or something? Is there a particular format or save method I need to follow?

I was actually just about to post when you replied.

I decided to just read through the man page and found that the syntax that the GitHub repo suggests, while works in some cases, was incorrect. At least in that it didn't work for me, I ended up using:

                $user $machinename = NOPSSWD : ALL

Thanks for the help! Guess I should have just read that in the first place before asking.
