Can't "hold" a button with psx roms
-
Hi, I've got RetroPie 4.2 on my Raspberry Pi 3, and games which require me to hold a button down are not recognising this, but rather see it as a string of attempts to press which obviously does not mean the same thing. Is there a way to remedy this?
-
Have you tried running jstest to see if it's actually registering you holding down a button ?
-
jstest suggest its fine. I should clarify I am only using one game at the moment, the title shouldn't be "roms". I will find another and test if holding buttons is fine. If it is, do you know how I might be able to fix it for that one game?
-
@JGHunter knowing the name of the game and region might help for others to be able to test or have an answer for you.
-
Oh sure, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, Europe.
Ok so I changed it from a .img to a .bin, .cue pair and now it sends me to the menu where I choose which emulator to use and when I select OK it just sends me back to retrostation.
-
@JGHunter try using a us version. There are issues with a lot of european roms on the emulator.
-
@JGHunter also look for psx eboots instead of iso img and bin. They work without any issues
-
PBP files do work the best it seems for multi-disk games. However, i've had no issues with bin/cue files. I do recommend checking to see if it's just a bad rom as ed suggested. Try a US version.
Also what emulator are you using? I highly recommend pcsx-rearmed.
-
i've had no issues with bin/cue files.
Yeah, bin/cue files are a 1:1 format to the actual discs. You'll potentially run into issues with iso, as many of the games have a disc structure that isn't supported in the iso standard. The pbp files are generally more conveniant when you can find or create them, but that convenience comes at the minor cost of load speed. All-in-all, bin/cue and pbp are both solid choices.

Which emulator are you using? Have you tried a different game?
And what do you mean with:
"and games which require me to hold a button down are not recognising this,"
You need to give us more details.
-
rearmed is the only one available to that game or some reason. I also have SPCH1001 (isn't it a different emu?)
I'll try a US version and get back to you.
I haven't found a psx game where holding a button has its own function, most are beat em ups or something where there is no "hold" function. If someone knows a game where holding a button does something different from pressing, I will give it a try and get back to you.
It seems bin/cue for US and .img for Europe are the only options available, both of which I tried and have described :(
-
@JGHunter are you using pcsx rearmed or lr-pcsx-rearmed??
-
@JGHunter I think you're using a non Libretro emu which means you need to config the controller separately, the config for the libretro emu's wont work. Download lr-pcsx-rearmed and see how that one works out.

You could try metal gear solid where the triangle button is first person view.
Good luck

@PetroRie I have lr-pcsx-rearmed, and the only one available for THPS 2 on the menu.

I am having this same problem. Making it impossible to play some games. Did you ever find a resolution?
