Just awaiting for an official dump of starfox 2. I haven't played the proto because it's been tampered with by moders. I say it be a week before its dumped. I been slowly selling my retro games to people with too much cash and buying flash carts instead. I am awaiting for the retro bubble to pop I for one won't be left with tonnage of plastic and paper that owes me thousands so I won't be buying this.

@mrjordaaany I'm really debating whether or not to get an SNES Mini. On the one hand, i'd have not only an offical SNES emulation setup, but new offical SNES controllers. On the other hand, I don't feel like stumbling through the hordes of people and bots to attempt to get one for cheap.

I sure feel sorry for your Americans and this pre-order nonsense you go through.

The preorders for the SNES mini went live a couple months ago here in NZ. And you can still pre order them now with no issue.

You're really lucky. I'd love to get one but it's the same situation in the UK, pre-orders are virtually impossible to get because as soon as they go live they sell out in a few minutes. I'm sure scalpers are the main problem (and the fact Nintendo can't get their act together and produce enough stock of anything it seems).

I hear that, I remember trying to find a Wii back when it first came out.

Yeah, seems to be a bit of a trend with them. Switch has been difficult to get as well (though stock is now appearing it seems), and they do the same with Amiibo - not that i'm interested in those personally but it's annoying for those are.

@lilbud I don't blame you. And it's not something I would do at all. Way to much of a hassle. Only reason I am getting one here is because its painless and easy to do. LIKE IT SHOULD BE. Goddam Nintendo.

@ruckage Yeah again, I completely agree. Scalpers are the worst. Makes it really hard for people that want one. I really did think after the NES it would be different this time around.

They do plan to make them for longer though right? That was confirmed? Hopefully its not a drip feed to suppliers though, otherwise you'll have the same issue still.

They said they were making more than the nes but i think they also said that they would only be producing them up until the end of this year (though i could be wrong).

Seeing how pre-sales already got soldout faster than ever, i managed to get one for €180 on ebay (yeah, i know.. i'm just a sucker for Super Nintendo) ... i just hope it won't be a scam or some BS forcing me to ask for a refund only completed 3 months later. sigh

Well, its your money but buying from scalpers like that will only encourage them.

@ruckage Sure. It's just that i'm not passing the chance to get one. It might even have a worse pricing explosion when it gets out of stock. I don't mind being sold something at an expensive rate when it's rare, but i think it's a problem when it is allowed for a contracted distribution partner to sell the whole pre-order stock away to 3rd party distributors with less respect for the suggested retail price. This should be prevented, both by comercial court and consumer protection law.

@aphex nothing in that package is rare. Accept the case and then that will be copied about 1 minute after China's bootleggers get it. But it's your money

This is why i doubt it's gonna be the same quality. I haven't seen any good imitation of the NES Classic (at least not meeting my quality standards). Even when it comes to Raspberry cases, all i can find are shabby-looking 3D-printed stuffs. The only good one i've found so far is the Retroflag's NESPi Case, and here too it's either sold out, or sold 10x the price from other people buying their stock.

That's the problem though, this isn't rare. The Nes and Snes classic are only scarce because of scalpers hoarding them. If people just refused to pay the the outlandish prices that the scalpers are charging they would have no incentive to buy them. There are still loads of NES classics available but they are all in the hands of scalpers.
By buying from the scalpers you become part of the problem. As I said though it's your money and your choice.

A simple solution would be for Nintendo to stop having limited runs of these but I don't see that happening as Nintendo repeats this pattern time and time again.

In my opinion, it's both Nintendo's and the scalpers' fault. Like @MrJordaaany said, Nintendo liked to drip feed stock to retailers for the NES Classic (I hope it isn't the same this time). Also, Nintendo, for some reason, doesn't take action against the scalpers and then, these scumbags take advantage of it and will use all means necessary to scoop up all the stock and sell them back to people at ridiculous prices just to make a quick buck. And now, these products can't be found anywhere, so now what can you do? That's right, your only option is to buy them from these scumbags, fueling the scalp train even more! Unless Nintendo does something about this, it's a never ending cycle... :(

Agreed, and sadly I think the drip feeding of stock will happen again. I believe Nintendo instructed retailers here to offer pre-orders on a staggered release schedule (they have gone live on several sites in the UK at least 3 times and sold out instantly - not sure if this was an attempt to curb scalping but it hasn't worked.)

Thing is they must know the demand is there and if they committed to producing stock for a longer period of time to meet demand there wouldn't be these issues. I think Nintendo wants the frenzy this causes but as with @twd it just puts me off buying from them which is a shame as I've been a fan of Nintendo games and consoles for a long while. If by some miracle there is enough stock made and it's available to buy legitimately in store/online after release day I'll buy one otherwise I just can't be bothered with the hassle. There is no way however much I want a SNES classic that I'm giving my money to the scalpers - I can live without it.
