I didn't understand very well your post, but check this if you are using a Kodi config backup:
    https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/314/can-t-get-kodi-to-run-with-retropie-3-7/16

If not, there is a high chance that you are experiencing this bug:
    https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1360

You can try to update to kernel 4.4 and see if that fixes your problem. You can test it by running the following command, reboot in the end and test again:

    sudo rpi-update

WARNING: I am not responsible if this breaks your installation more than it was, try it at your own risk.

@Riverstorm said in Retropie menu changed.:

I had this happen twice to me. Once when I was compiling ScummVM for some reason it wiped out
I had to revert to a backup to things working properly again. If you don't have a backup handy you might have to start from a scratch image.

That's what I was thinking, cheers man. :/

k did the retropie set up and hit Reset ownership/permissions of /home/pi/RetroPie/roms
it did something really quickly on the bottom of the screen then went right back to the menu.

but still wont boot from any other emulator but gpSP. Which is weird to me because if it was a bio issue wouldn't all 4 not work?

I also have plenty of space I'm only using 25% of my memory

Regarding copyright issues, as mentioned by iconrumble, I've written a couple of short blog posts on Emulation Legality, and Extracting images from your own game cartridges.

I'm reminded of something my primary school did for a short while many, many years ago - they used to hire videos and show them on a (standard sized) TV on a Saturday morning. We were charged 50p, to attend, ostensibly for crisps and a drink, but it didn't wash legally, and the whole enterprise was shut down. Shame - first time I ever saw Raiders was at the film club!

I figured it out on my own the issue is for some reason the raspberry pi was using the incorrect hdmi group and mode for my 1080p display. The mode it was using was an aspect ratio of 4:3 and therefore stretched my games to full screen. Thought I would put this here for anyone else having the same issue.

Here is a link on how to fix the issue i was having.

    Hi,

    Oh my bad. LOL.

Glad that you spotted that and thanks for pointing it out.

By the way, I think @Riverstorm explained it well. That names should be the best guess by jstest. I designed the board and wrote the firmware. I don't name those buttons so :)

@Riverstorm said in Daphne & Basic Auto-Config Failure:

Not sure what you mean here. In the capacity you're writing drivers for the Libretro cores to make USB compliant devices work with Retroarch/RetroPie?

RetroPie has a universal gamepad driver available in it's default installation. It's just that, due to it's name, many people tend to overlook all that it can do. The xboxdrv can be used to adapt any input device that the system can read as an event, which pretty much opens the door to anything. It can also be used in a capacity to map keyboard commands to a gamepad, allowing controller support to those emulators that only support a keyboard. After being setup, the system (in this case RetroPie) assumes the input device is a standard XBox gamepad or basic keyboard.

Doesn't every platform open, closed, proprietary, etc. have some dominant controller sort to speak. I would guess the top five controllers probably make up the lion's share of the user population simply because they are widely used and supported. You have to start somewhere when supporting devices why not the #1 best sellers, top used controllers, etc. I do appreciate those that support the one off devices that have potential to be the next best seller or niche usages or simply as it sounds in your case a collector enthusiast.

It's just a difference in computer philosophy. There's nothing wrong per se with a dominant controller being used by the masses. We should consider ourselves lucky that there is one that works very well and is available to all. But to some, at the heart of running a hobbyist computer is the notion that practically anything is possible with a little imagination and perseverance. It's easy to forget this as we live in a time where the computer is being thought of more and more as an appliance. Which again, isn't necessarily a bad thing for the masses, it's just that notion limits what is possible for the sake of convenience. Thankfully both philosophies are well catered to in the open source world we find ourselves in here. Things can be as simple or advanced as any one of us wishes.

    Ok, so - UPDATE

I dropped the ideas of re-building the Emulationstation image and instead realized Kid mode works fine with any theme, it's only if you want the extra UI options you need to mess around with custom themes.

My next challenge is to prompt for the password when returning to the terminal via F4.....

@w3bboy I'll take a stab at this as I've seen something similar to what you are describing and it was a storage issue in my case. You might try going here to see if it will help in your case. I had trouble (for whatever reason I don't know) upon first boot that the automatic resizing of the partition did not take correctly and had to do it manually. You can ignore the parts about changing the cmdline.txt file for using a USB thumbdrive (but I'd HIGHLY recommend you investing in one! I've got a 128GB stick with only 8GB free on mine after loading it up with everything I had) and just jump to the part "Once booted, " area about deleting and recreating a primary partition.

Keep in mind, you're limited with that 8gb card in the number of roms you'll be able to throw on there...

This may/may-not help but thought I'd give ya a poke......
