Unable to configure usb gamepad on Retropi 4.4

Hi,

Hardware:
Raspberry Pi Zero W
5v 2A power supply
USB Hub
RedGear wired USB GamePad( https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B01FJHV48A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )

I flashed the Retrpie 4.4 image on my Pi ZeroW and on booting, it did show 1 GamePad connected, press A to configure, but it is not detecting any button press from the Gamepad.

Then I connected a keyboard and it did detect the keyboard button press, but no matter what I do the gamepad button press is not getting detected.

I did setup the wifi and ssh using the keyboard and on checking ls /dev/input - It did show the joystick there.

The gamepad works fine on PC and even on my Raspberry Pi 2 running Kodi, in Kodi I am able to use the gamepad to navigate perfectly fine.

Also then I tried flashing the retropie image on my Raspberry pi 2, but faced exactly same issue!

Any help would be appreciated.

@ibshar Is the controller detected by jstest, can you test it as described in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#determining-button-values to see if the button presses are registered ?

Hi,

I tried that step, in jstest also the buttons are not responding. All the buttons are shown in OFF state and pressing any of the buttons does not change any value to ON. :(

@ibshar Then it means the controller is not detected by the OS, so it cannot work with Emulationstation or the emulators. Try switching the controller in Xbox mode and see if it's detected as a Xbox controller.

Then it means it's already working as in 'Xbox mode'.

Look in the manual for the controller, I just saw it's possible in the item description you posted, I assume it's some button combination when you start it.

Dude you're a life saver! Thanks a lot bro, i checked the manual and found that by default the controller uses Xinput mode(used by new games) so had to switch it to Direct input mode(used by old games) and then it started working..
