Driver- You Are The Wheelman - Restart Exits Game
-
@classicgmr Gran Turismo 1 & 2 are on my next up list! I never played Destruction Derby 2. I was a c64/Tandy and Nintendo guy until PS2 showed up so I skipped the PS1 and only had a select few that were backwards compatible. I need to find some awesome games and see who in my family still has their old PS1 games collecting dust.
-
@thedatacereal I second destruction derby 2...I've lost interest in all other ps1 racing games except for Destruction derby 2 and the Wipeout series. DD2 is great for all the mayhem you can cause and some pretty advanced AI. I love Wipeout 2097 & 3 for the speed, excellent physics and the soundtrack.
Gran turismo is a driving sim and I feel has been surpassed by lots of games since.
Like you said, for Driver just use a savestate..but only to replace the broken restart option.

No matter how I ask this question it sounded like a whiny 13 year old's challenge in my head so be aware it is literally just a question since I am really curious.
What games are you referring to? I can't get many driving games to run at a decent FPS on the Pi. If you can suggest a sim better than GT2 that runs on the RPi I'll definitely try it.
-
@classicgmr O no, for the Pi GT2 definitely is the best driving sim.
But that's more a personal thing for me. I had a Fanatec steering wheel setup for my ps3 games (Dirt 2, Gran turismo 5 & 6, Grid) so I can't go back to playing GT1 or 2 with a gamepad anymore. Driving sims have come a long way since then. (Whereas other genres peaked on systems perfectly playable on the Pi, like 2d platformers , 2d fighting games, jrpg's etc, so that's mostly what I use my Pi for.) -
@bobharris Damn I was hoping I missed something Pi-wise. Ah, well.
The first time I played Forza on the XBox 360 I was blown away. It's still a favorite of mine. Compared to that GT2 is a Matchbox car next to a Masterpiece Optimus Prime.
But, since it is probably one of the best games I can put on the Pi - it stays. :)

@classicgmr As I don't own a wheel anymore I might as well get used to gamepad racing again! GT2 is being writed to my flash drive as we speak. :) Have you heard of the Toca games? I used to play those a lot..more sim than arcade and quite a lot of fun.

Heard of the TOCA racing games but I have never actually played them. I assume, at this point, I could probably pick them up on the cheap so I'll keep my eye out next time I go to GameStop. Thanks for the tip!
-
@classicgmr So I've played some Gran turismo 1, 2 , Formula 1, Toca 1&2 and I'm sticking to my opinion. These games haven't aged well.
Even though Wipeout 2097 is not exactly car racing, it has aged brilliantly. Also you can enable enhanced resolution. (Unlike the car racers; they take a big hit in fps.) -

Somewhat related to the Driver themed games part of the thread, do they have GTA 1/2 DOS versions or just the Windows 95 versions? Also, Dreamcast had some racing games like MSR but I don't think that was a true racing sim.
-
@thedatacereal I'd like to try out GTA dos. I have the ps1 version, but it's a pretty bad port.

Hi, I'm new to the retropie world, I just got my system working the other day. My son loves the racing game Forza, I have found the ROM for it but I don't think I have the right emulator, I don't see an Xbox reference in the ROM folders on my USB stick.
Which emulator are you using to run Forza?
Thanks

@johnl52 retropie does not support xbox.
