N64 Goldeneye

Has anyone managed to get goldeneye running smoothly?
I’m running a pi3b+ with an official pi power source.
I’m running the Mupen64plus emulator and have tried all the different variations. The best at the minute appears to be the Gles2n64. Most of the posts seem to suggest that Glode or Rice is better but I’m not finding that.
Whatever I choose it is a bit choppy with sound coming in and out etc. It is just about playable with the Gles version but some of the detail is missing. Especially at the startup on the passport where the start command etc.. is not rendered at all.
Anyone like to share their exact settings for video modes and frame buffer resolution etc..
I have the Mupen64plus_audio=0 in the configurable file, but anything else that anyone is aware please let me know.
Thanks.

I have played with the settings a bit more tonight but still having no joy.
With glide and rice the graphics are very blocky in the game play. Even with the high res selection. The gles version is a lot sharper but I have an annoying blue border around the game play and there are missing graphics on the start screens.
Any help appreciated. I have looked at overcmovking etc but the ideas appear to be that the 3b+ is almost at capacity anyway.

@chrisjpark there’s not much that can be done on a pi. I would not consider n64 playable on one. The performance you’re getting is about as good as it gets.

@lostless thanks. I appreciate it is not perfect. But it is generally playable. I would just like to get the same graphics from the glide emulator that I do for the gles. I’m certain it is probably a setting that I am missing somewhere.

@chrisjpark i'm afraid that the default graphics are at that low resolution for that game with the GlideN64 plugin as it simply can't perform well at all at higher resolutions. the gles2n64 emulator is much less accurate.
you'll find that most of the settings in the mupen64plus.cfg won't have any effect as the launch script overrides them.

@dankcushions thanks. Is there a way I can override the launch scripts?
