is that really "enhanced resolution"?
-
hi at all,
I use lr-pcsx with enhanced graphics AND bilinear filtering. although the "double resolution" does not seem like it works. I see zero difference between it being en/disabled. see here with enabled settings:
is that really double the resolution? I am only playing on a "small" 42 inch screen and it seems to be really jaggy.
best wishes.

@naddel81 did you restart the game after making changes?
-
yes. please take a look at the pic. is it enabled or disabled for you?
-
Looks enabled to me.
-
ok thanks. then my expectations just were too high :(
-
why don't you disable enhanced resolution and post a picture of that so we can actually compare it visually? :)
-
Tekken 3 had a weird resolution of 384x480, so doubling a already low resolution only gets you 768x960. So, if your are running a 1080p res, then 768x960 will still look blocky.
Personally, I prefer the Playstation's original resolution, but then I am using my Pi on a CRT. -
i think tekken 3 might be a weird case because it was interlaced. the option might not even do anything. almost any other 3d game should look quite noticeably better. you don't have to restart to see the effect.
-
ok, will try in another game. so tekken 3 is out of bounds here?
-
@naddel81 that's what i said...
-
it works fine on tomb raider, so it is really game dependant.
can we even bump the resolution further? "enhanced" doubles it, I guess. to can we triple it? or will the pi3 b+ max out then? -
I find that some game are enhanced more than others. I remember Tekken 3 having fewer 'jaggs' than Tekken 2 back on the PlayStation 1 and I also noticed that Tekken 3 didn't look that much better enhanced. Soul Reaver, Panzer Front and Crash Team Racing are much improved. Some games like Shadow Man or Soul Calibre are improved but no better for it because of other graphical issues. Medieval and Future Cop are others game that do not seem to be improved much by enhanced resolution.
I assume that the doubling could be enhanced further subject only to maintaining the aspect ratio and the power of the Pi. Maybe something to look forward to in the Pi 4.
What are the typical screen resolutions of PlayStation 1 games?
-
@naddel81 i checked the code and it's just 'high resolution games' that the enhanced resolution doesn't touch. so things like tekken 3, bloody roar 2 i think, etc.
-
I assume it does not touch those because it would hit a GPU bottleneck then?
-
@naddel81 pcsx_rearmed does not use the GPU as such. it has a CPU renderer. i don't know why it doesn't affect them but the whole thing is a hack in an otherwise accurate emulator, and it already has side effects in some games, so maybe it's just too difficult to implement on games using the PSX's higher resolution modes
-
ok, good to know! might it be possible to get the anty polygon wobble in? on PC it is pgxp, I guess.
-
@naddel81 not with the neon renderer we use - it's in lr-beetle-playstation-hw, but that needs better hardware
-
ok, then we wait eagerly for the next pi iteration.
