Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 4 8GB Model B
Power Supply used: CanaKit 3.5A USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply
RetroPie Version Used: 4.7.1 (last commit: 2 days ago)
Built From: Canakit raspbian install --> retropie install
USB Devices connected: xbox 360 controller
    Controller used: xbox 360 controller
    Error messages received: None.
    Verbose log (if relevant): https://pastebin.com/UL28xvyp
    Guide used: Retropie docs
    File: I assume /opt/retropie/configs/psx/retroarch.cfg
    Emulator: lr-pcsx-rearmed
    Attachment of config files: https://pastebin.com/HijSwdgM
How to replicate the problem: Run retropie update scripts.

    Problem:
Everything was working fine, but then I was silly and ran the update scripts because I was trying to do something else - and somehow this broke PSX control mapping.

Brief description: My controller(s) keys do not work during any PSX game boot except for the retroarch shortcuts. Tested with xbox 360 controller (wired), Switch Pro controller (bluetooth), ps4 controller (wired). They were working prior to running the update scripts.

It is not the standard/analog issue. Already tested every variation of that.
I think it has something to do with the retroarch.cfg file as when I delete the file and let a new one be created on game boot, the controller does work but it's using the alternate retroarch GUI that isn't optimized for retropie.

I tried reinstalling the specific emulator from binary and source. No changes. I tried copying over the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg, no changes. The controller works in all other emulators, just not lr-pcsx-rearmed. I tried binding manually while in lr-pcsx-rearmed through the retroarch shortcut menu, still no luck.

I read every post I could find on this and tried all their proposed fixes, no luck. So I am at a loss, hence posting here :(

Advice is welcome, verbose log on a game boot is above. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.

Goal: To have the configured input working in the rest of retroarch work also in lr-pcsx-rearmed.

Try opening the core options and disable the 'Multitap' options. They are shown when 'Show other input settings' is enabled.

@mitu, you are my hero. I spent near 4 hours on this yesterday messing with everything - but all had to do was go into the core options and replace the multitap auto with disabled and now it works perfectly.

For anyone else reading, Mitu's comment above was the fix.

I have no idea how an update caused that, but a huge thank you to you. You've saved my little family vacation where people expected nostalgia-inducing games.

        Thanks again!

The fix was discovered by another user (@yelworC), they should get the credit. Glad it was helpful.

@elated I'm extremely new to this and a little lost. I'm having this same issue. What menu do I access this? When I boot the game no buttons work at all EXCEPT for my start/hotkey combo. I can not access retroarch while in the game. So how do I navigate to this to fix my issue? Is this in retropie core options? Or retroarch? Basically I'm completely ignorant as to how to interpret some of the tech speak I see on these forums. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

@mitu OMG! Thank you! It worked! I was playing my games just the other day and everything was working but then I started uploading others and I must have updated something or changed something without realizing it. Like I said, I'm very new to this retropie thing. I've built 2 picarts and just got a pi 4, 4GB and a nespi 4 case for an early christmas present. All of this i've done in the past month or so. I greatly appreciate your guidance.

I updated yesterday and am having the same problem I'm no slouch with retroarch but I'm just not seeing any multitap options at all. Only thing I see is under main menu-> settings-> input you can set it to however many but no dice trying to get it to work. 😕

Well used ssh to edit the core options and "disabled" the multitap 1 and 2 there but no luck still.

You need to toggle the 'Show other input settings' option and then restart the game, the Multitap options are not shown by default.

Ah well I got it by ssh and saving it outside retroarch running thank you tho I saved it to the global since 1. It won't jump from game to game and 2. I don't ever play with more than 1 other person anyways.

I tried as you suggested and that does the trick. Now I'm trying to get a feel for bilinear filtering but it resets every time you exit and enter even though I set it in the config but that's another topic thank you man 😁

I had the same problem after the update. The multitap option is always on auto. Switched off both multitap via rgui, saved remapping options, quit the game, back to game and controller worked fine. But I could not find a way to save it globally for the emulator, it only works per game and pcsx-rearmed seems to ignore retroarch-core-options.cfg
It's propably a bug. Is there a way to revert lr-pcsx-rearmed to a previous version?

I haven't found that to be the case, maybe you have game options set up for multiple games ?

Praise the sun, omfg this finally solved my issue. I've been slaving away at this thing for nearly half a day now trying to figure out why the controller suddenly stopped working only in PCSX and only in the game itself. Had to make an account just to say this.

Ugh.. This thread should be immortalized in a polished block of marble. "Disable the Multitap BS..."
