Attempting to run PAL Ape Escape results in being kicked back to the game select screen after the runcommand prompt. Game does run on a different machine using ePSXe. Verbose logs for other working titles (tested Magic Castle, Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere) are identical apart from directories for saves and configs up to the error message listed below. Tried with multiple BIOS files (SCPH1001, SCPH1002, SCPH5501, SCPH5502). Tried renaming files to much shorter names (ape.bin, ape.cue, ape.sbi), .cue file also updated to point to new name.

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi model 4B 8GB
Power Supply used: OKdo 5V 3A Power Supply
      RetroPie Version Used 4.7.18
Built From: On top of existing OS (TwisterOS)
USB Devices connected: USB Mouse, USB Keyboard
Controller used: IPEGA 9139 via bluetooth (issue persists without it)
Error messages received: [libretro INFO] Error opening CD-ROM plugin!
      Verbose log (if relevant): https://pastebin.com/FwbtMQMd
      Guide used: N/A
File: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx/Ape Escape (SCES-01564)/(PSX) Ape Escape (SCES-01564).cue (with matching .bin and .sbi file in the same directory)
      Emulator: Retroarch v1.9.7, LR-PCSX-ReARMed v1.9

Please indicate if I should include specific config files. Thanks for your help.

I test Ape Escape (USA) with 1001.bin bios and RetroPie 4.7.18 and the game works fine. Try the USA version if you can.
Also i don't know what Twister OS is and how it effects the functionality of RetroPie.

My English isn't at a good level.

I checked the NTSC version and I can confirm that it works on my system also. I had the PAL version starting before at some point.
I also checked with Command and Conquer: Red Alert PAL to make sure it wasn't something with PAL games and it worked fine.

IIRC Ape Escape is super picky about how the joypad analogue is set up.

            Currently running:
Retropie 4.8.9 on a Pi Zero 2W (Overclock Settings: CPU 1400Mhz)
            ES-DE on a GMKtec K6 (Windows 11, 32GB RAM)

I have the exact same issue, same error messages and everything.

Booted just fine in a previous version of PCSX ReARMed.

I doubt this is related to the analog issue, since it always booted just fine even if the controls didn't work without the right configuration.

I rather try to find how to fix this than to use the US version and it's horrible voice acting.

              So any help is appreciated.

@csl try updating it from source. pcsx_rearmed is getting a lot of fixes lately (one of which possibly caused your issue, but still…).

if not, log an issue but check it’s not a duplicate. eg https://github.com/libretro/pcsx_rearmed/issues?q=is%3Aissue+ape+

@averagespearman Quick question How did you get the IPEGA 9139 to connect to retropie
