Solved: Shock Troopers fails to load in lr-fbneo
-
Pi Model — 4 Model B
RetroPie Version — 4.7.18
Built From — Premade SD Image on RetroPie's website.
Error Type — Game fails to boot, returning to the game list.
Verbose Log — Found Here
Emulator — lr-fbneo (on the latest commit)
Additional Information 1 — There was another thread about this here but I can't seem to access it in any browser I've tried, it just loads indefinitely. The issue may have been resolved in that thread?
Additional Information 2 — The verbose log shows that the romset is found but it appears the files inside aren't matching the crc. It's the only game out of 70 that's failed to launch, and I've tried half a dozen ROM variants of Shock Troopers with no luck either. The problem appears very specific to this game.SOLVED: The verbose log had actually revealed that I was missing a secondary file, but it went over my head. Finding the necessary file and including it in the ROM allowed the game to run as normal with lr-fbneo. Thanks for the help everyone!

then it's quite simple - it's the wrong romset. like all arcade emulators, it requires romset from a specific romset version to function. lr-fbneo tracks current MAME so the shock troopers romset from there should work. if you're others work it's because they're randomly from a compatible romset, or perhaps only this one has been updated more recently.

@gaucheartist
a google search for the rom crc efedf8dc will probably yield results
or the latest mame romset
but you really should learn how to build sets using clrmamepro and dats

@lister-of-smeg Appreciate the tip on checking the exact crc through Google. Seems like an obvious step but I totally overlooked it. Strangely the emulator was looking for a specific file from a secondary ROM (a clone?). That's the first time I've seen it ask for something beyond just the parent ROM.
Databasing is nice, although I'm fairly confident in my ability to identify correct romsets already. I've managed to work out everything so far, even the hard-to-run CP System III stuff. This was a new problem for me though.
Thankfully, I have it running now and I'll be sure to double check those crc's in Google going forward to get the information I require. Thanks again for the suggestion!

@dankcushions As it turns out, it was looking for a specific file from a secondary Shock Troopers ROM. Not much to say beyond, "I didn't do my due diligence." The filename in the verbose log was so similar to one already in the ROM that I didn't realize it was actually missing. Also new to me is a Neo Geo game requiring a secondary file. I've dealt with parent and clone ROMs in the past, and even have experience with CHD's and secondary files with CP System III stuff, but this was a new one for me.
I appreciate the confirmation that I had it wrong. Between that and Googling the crc I was able to find the missing file and get this running.
