    Hi there,

this is my first post, so I apologize if it isn't quite formatted correctly, or is missing key information.
This is also my first RetroPie, and the most experience I've ever had with Linux, or shell ever, so I apologize if I am making simple mistakes, or if I ask for clarification to answers.

I am missing audio from my splash video, and main menu. I am using a single HDMI connection, and have set my audio settings to Audio Card: Default, Audio Device: HDMI, OMX Audio Device: ALSA, with no change to the issue. I have attempted to update EmulationStation, RetroPie, and the Raspberry Pi image.

Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 4 B 2gb, (Purchased in 2022, so likely post silicone revision changes)
PSU: Argon One official USB 3 Type-C PSU
RetroPie Ver.: I believe 4.7.20 as downloaded from https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/
    Built From: See above link
USB Devices: USB Wireless Keyboard, and Wireless Controller
    Controller: Rii RK707
Error Message: No error message, issue is not an error
Verbose Log: I do not know what this is, sorry.
Guide used: TheGeekPub's Ultimate RetroPie Setup and Installation (Link in bottom of post) I also followed guides on installing the fan software for the ArgonOne V2 case.
    File: :\home\pi\RetroPie\splashscreens\ComicBookSplash-720.mp4
    Emulator: N/A
    Config.txt: https://pastebin.com/0RGWtWkU
How to replicate: Every time I reboot EmulationStation the splash video has no audio, also the main menu (list of consoles, RetroPie, etc.) doesn't have any audio, but if I enter a console's menu I get game audio and the system audio.

    Additional details:
During installation, I did some custom steps to save time. Specifically, after installing RetroPie via the Raspberry Pi Imager, I copied several directories from a friend's previous RetroPie build (also an RPi4, but from 2020, so I could not use the same image). I will list the directories I copied over, however I chose only to copy non-duplicate files, keeping the new image's files over the old:

    :\opt\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation
    :\opt\retropie\configs\all\retroarch
    :\etc\emulationstation
    :\home\pi\RetroPie\roms
    :\home\pi\RetroPie\splashscreens

This was done to try to keep the scraper images and information my friend had done (there was a large number of ROM files I do not intend to disclose), however again, I did not overwrite any of the files from the new image or installation, so I don't know how much of an impact this is.

Everything else on the Pi is working, and I don't have any audio issues running games. I did try to follow a few help guides/posts (e.g.: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17547/splash-screen-no-audio, https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26628/audio-issues-after-latest-raspbian-updates-june-2020, etc.), but they seemed to not help, and in some cases I could not replicate the steps mentioned (possibly caused by my ignorance). I also can't seem to find the same exact situation I have, so I don't know if my issue is unique.

Thank you again in advance for any assistance you can provide.

What theme are you using ? Navigation sounds are set by the theme, so they may be missing in the carousel navigation.
For the splashscreen audio, if you preview the video in the splashscreen settings, does it have audio ?

@mitu I'm using the ComicBook theme, and sorry for the n00b question, but how do I access a splashscreen preview?

Open RetroPie-Setup, then go to Configuration -> splashscreen and from there you can choose to preview the splashscreens you have available.

Then maybe the video doesn't have audio ? Where did you get the video ?

@mitu I can confirm audio in the video on my PC. I got the video from my friend's RetroPie setup. It's the same video shown in this YouTube video:

Can't think of why it won't work. Can you try running, from the command line, after exiting EmulationStation:

                  cd RetroPie/splashscreens
                  omxplayer --no-osd -o both -b --layer 10000 ComicBookSplash-720.mp4

This should play the video, with the same parameters used by the splashscreen. See if the audio works.

@virgoh For clarification, do I need the line break? If so how do I enter that into shell?

You press the Enter key on the keyboard, after each command.

@mitu It gives me a "File "ComicBookSplash-720.mp4" not found." error.

@virgoh The path is the one you posted - maybe this is not the correct name ? You can use Tab to complete the file name by just typing

                          omxplayer --no-osd -o both -b --layer 10000 ComicBook

and then pressing tab, the correct filename should show up, assuming you only have 1 file named "ComicBook*" in the splashscreen folder.

@mitu It says "-bash: omxplayer: command not found"
Sorry, I had a typo in the command. After correcting that typo it says "/usr/bin/omxplayer.bin: unrecognized option '--n-osd'
Sorry, another typo on my part. The video plays, but no audio.

@mitu re-downloading that video and installing it still has the same problem.

Probably the theme uninstall the Comic book theme and then see if its working. (some themes don't support Splash screens or main menu audio.)

Then I don't have any other idea. I assume you're using HDMI for audio output, which omxplayer should be able to use - I tested the command line I posted for testing and it worked fine with the Comic Book splash video.

@mitu Yeah, the Splash screen and menu aren't a huge deal, so I don't mind too much, I just wish I could figure it out. At this point I'm hoping it's resolved with a future update.
