3DO Emulation on Pi4 : Question Regarding Mad Dog McCree
-
You shouldn't use the arcade gun unless you're playing an arcade game. When using the 3DO light gun control option the right click will reload. The problem is you have to shoot "offscreen" which is difficult to do quickly. It just changes the location to the top middle and fires to reload which is the norm for those games. Not sure why it's not reloading for you when the bullets are gone. I'll have to look at that.
There is some work that needs to go into improving the gun emulation and there is a rendering bug where the cross-hair differs between 16 and 32bpp rendering modes but you shouldn't need to do that hack you said.

Thank you
Not sure how to tell the difference between arcade game and 3DO Light Gun
Would Mad dog and other American lasers games be considered an arcade games ?
How would o shoot offscreen ... I tried that a number of times and nothing , is there a certain screen adjustment I would need to made. , any suggestions ?
Thank you again for the tips and suggestions

The games that use the arcade gun are those that are for the 3DO arcade system. There are arcade versions of some games and the retail home versions. You have to use the arcade ROM for the arcade games. You have to use a retail ROM for retail games. They won't work on other ROMs.
Like I said... you cant shoot offscreen. You can't move a mouse offscreen. That's why the reload button exists as defined in the retroarch control menu. You have to set Gun Trigger, Gun Reload, and Gun Select for retail games. Gun Trigger is the gun trigger, Gun Reload tries to force the gun offscreen and fires, and Gun Select is the option button on the original device.
As I said... I don't know why reload isn't working. It used to work fine. I'm the author of the emulator... I'll have to go investigate. I've no other suggestions.

Your the Author of the 3DO Emulation for the Pi , well I have to tip my hat to you , o love 3DO and it's a dream to be able to play it running very well on another console ... main reason why I upgraded to a Pi 4
It's ok if you have no idea about the reload situation , whenever you have the extra time , maby a solution will come to mind one day soon ;)
I appreciate your work and really enjoy this Emulation

@trapexit I am having the same issue as @escc1986 where I am unable to reload in Mad Dog McCree. I am also having similar issues with Space Pirates.
Other ALG games I have tried the reload works fine (Crime Patrol 1+2, Mad Dog 2, Last Bounty Hunter). I have settings > input > port 1 controls > gun reload mapped to mouse 2 (pump action on my lightgun). I have also tried mouse button 3 and mapping either to AuxA to see if that made any difference, but it doesn't.
I am using lr-opera 1.0.0
3849c96
on a Pi4 running Retropie with RA 1.9.14. Port 1 is set to3do lightgun
.One thing to note about Mad Dog McCree is on an initial load of the game I can shoot/reload on the main menu using the pump action, but in game it fires shots (same as the trigger/mouse 1). Once the .srm file is created, If I exit the game and start it again reload no longer works at the main menu, it instead fires shots.
Please let me know what additional details I can provide.
Side question: does opera support 2
arcade lightgun
for arcade games such as Shootout at Old Tucson? I am able to get the game to run with 1 lightgun (which is detected and plays as player 2), but I am unable to get 2 lightguns to work. I can start a new thread for this if it is preferred. -
@trapexit Did you solve the reload issue?
-
I didn't have issues before.
Someone submitted a patch that I accepted a while back in May to tweak reload.
-
@trapexit So it's fixed as of the latest version? Nice. sorry that crept up on you.
-
@duglor I don't exactly know. I didn't have issues as I recall with reload. I couldn't test the change because I didn't have the problem.
-
@trapexit I'm on the latest lr-Opera and I am experiencing the same problem. Reload works for a while (few scenes), then it stops working until I reset the emulator.
