      Hi there,

I recently got a Raspberry Pi 3 and installed the Retropie 4.0.2. I uploaded the complete metal slug roms into the neogeo rom folder: mslug.zip, mslug2.zip, mslug3.zip, mslug4.zip, mslug5.zip, mslugx.zip.

I also put the neogeo.zip bios file which contains the following files(only to show what bios I am using - I did not extract the neogeo.zip file:

      000-lo.lo
      asia-s3.rom
      japan-j3.bin
      sfix.sfix
      sm1.sm1
      sp1.jipan.1024
      sp-1v1_3db8c.bin
      sp-45.sp1
      sp-e.sp1
      sp-j2.sp1
      sp-s.sp1
      sp-s2.sp1
      uni-bios_1_0.rom
      uni-bios_1_1.rom
      uni-bios_1_2.rom
      uni-bios_1_2o.rom
      uni-bios_1_3.rom
      uni-bios_2_0.rom
      uni-bios_2_1.rom
      uni-bios_2_2.rom
      uni-bios_2_3.rom
      uni-bios_2_3o.rom
      usa_2slt.bin
      vs-bios.rom

Metal slug 1 runs ok, Metal slug 2 works as well, however while attempting to start metal slug 3, 4, 5 - I have a dark screen for a second and then it comes back to the game selection menu. No idea why. I tred several solutions - tried a few neogeo.zip files, tried to upload the roms to the fba rom folder instead of neogeo, but it did not help.
I tried to change the emulator as well but didnt help.

The thing is that I have seen the mslug 3 4 or 5 roms running on Retropie on Youtube and I have no clue how to make this to work on my device.

Has anyone of you experienced such problems?I would be very very grateful if someone could help me.

@mike8906 which romset are you using? your games and BIOS MUST be from the correct one for the emulator you are using. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/managing-roms

Well this just confirmes that I'm a newbie... I am currently downloading a fba 0.2.97.38 romset, hope that the bios file will be there as well. I will then try again and let know if I managed to sort the issue out or not.

          For now, cheers for help.

3, 4, and 5 work fine. Get the correct romset.

@mike8906 Metal Slug games work fine under lr-mame2003 (.78 romset ). Right romset for each emulator core is shown here.
Latest FBA (.39) requires .175 roms if I remember correctly.

Ok, but what is with these .dat files which are described under the link you have given me? Should I also put such file into my retropie? Can anyone explain in a step-by-step way?
Let's say I'll download the finalburnalpha 0.2.97.38 romset, what next?

Please excuse me, I just have started this whole emulation-adventure.

I really appreciate your support already!:)

@mike8906 if you have the .38 set you don't need to worry about the .dats - they are for people who want to build (or check) that set. you can just put the bios and game files from the download into your roms directory and it should just work :)

                        You meant 0.78, right? ;-)

Well, i managed to rebuild the roms, but the question is now - should I rebuild the neogeo.zip bios file as well?

                            @meleu ".38 set" -> I think he means romset for FBA v 0.2.97.38.
                            ;-)

like i said, you don't need to rebuild anything. you downloaded the set you need.

I'm using lr-fba-next (now called lr-fbalpha) with the correct romset and those games you mentioned work fine. I didn't update my FBA emulator because if I do I need to "update" the games. I just downloaded the correct romset, uploaded them to the Pi and no need to convert them.

                                  Hello there,

I have managed to sort the issue out, I just downloaded the right rom set as you guys advised - Big thank you for that!!. Mostly satisfied but one thing bothers me. Do you experience a framerate drop when lots of action happen while playing any MetalSlug game? Is it realted to the limitation of the Raspberry Pi3? Or can it be fixed?
I use a memory split of 320 as advised in one of the retropie setup tutorial.
Does the game really requires so much power that it slows down while lots of explosions/enemies appear on the screen?

From the RGUI menu you can "overclock" the NeoGeo. I did that and it works perfectly. I heard that on the original console it lagged too, it's not really the RPi's fault. Still that game is freaking addictive and one of my favorite arcade games.
