      Hello everyone,
I am new at Retropie, but old at emulator world. I did not care romset until now jeje. I have FBA .38 romset and use ctrlmamepro guide to convert at .39. I can confirm many games dont work :( on lr-fbalpha.
Thanks to all, it's an excellent project.
Sorry my english. Grettings from Chile.

hi :) you can't convert from an old to a later version (as it requires files you don't have), only convert from a later to an older version. so you need to get a .39 set.

@dankcushions now I know. FBA Arcade romset .39 is hard to find.
Mame .175 romset is the same?? I want only run CPS(123) and Neo-Geo games.

@NanoS7 neogeo and CPS(123) will be the same as in the mame .175 romset as far as I know. i did manage to find a .39 fba romset, though :)

Unfortunately the exact .39/0.175 Romset you're talking about only has 1,519 out of the 4,374 roms the full 0.175 romset is supposed to have. Even if I'll never use even 90% of the romset, I like the option to be available to me, you know? ...this is why I don't understand why the switch was made in RetroPie to such an utterly (currently) inaccessible romset.

You ARE supposed to (in theory ;) be able to UPDATE a romset with ClrmamePro IF you have the update packs. 0.173 is the current full romset I have, and [Redacted] and the like have 0.173 to 0.174 and 0.174 to 0.175 update packs....but hell if I can figure out ClrmamePro despite like 10 hours of trying... (and I like to think I'm no dummy...but I totally am with that non-use-friendly ClrmamePro program).

it's not a retropie decision - we don't write the emulators. FBA seem to sync their romset with current mame every release.

also i haven't checked my romset but i think it's a merged set, so it will have all of those roms, just merged. you can use clrmamepro to un-merge/split if you want.

                  I know, it's just a shame don't you think?

If I can EVER get ClrmamePro to work with upgrading the romset I will post directions (that actually work!) to this forum! ...as I assume most of us have 0.173 which is easily found on the internet.

Good point - I will double check that. I know we both have the same exact 0.175 romset. But I know I did check a couple of the ROMS against the Goggle docs spreadsheet, and even when renaming the parent to the name of the ?sibling? like you're supposed to do in a non-merged set to get the exact rom you want to play, then pushing it to the Pi to try out, it wasn't working for me (but I could have very well screwed it up as MAME is new-ish to me). I'll bring the romset to work where I have access to a PC and try another tutorial on how to unmerge the set with ClrmamePro, if possible.

i can't speak for anyone else, but i got my .39 FBA set from the same place i got my .38 set when that was released. the .38 set eventually appeared at another commonly used site as an unmerged 'reference set' and I expect the .39 set to be the same. you have to be patient, or not update your retropie :)

I know we both have the same exact 0.175 romset and unfortunately I'm pretty sure (can double check when I get home), that it's still missing a bunch - even if it is a merged set. Of the ones I'm missing I know I checked the Goggle Doc spreadsheet and they were listed as being in the set but weren't in the downloaded files.

a merged set means that one zip file (sf2.zip for example) will contain all the files needed for the various clones, rather than each clone having a seperate .zip. you couldn't tell by looking at the spreadsheet and the files - you'd need to look at the dat, or use clrmamepro to un-merge them.

i am pretty sure mine is merged as the filesize was similar to .38, but i will confirm later.

yup, I was refining my post as you posted this, but I did previously try the normal thing of changing the parent .zip file name to the child?sibling? rom name I wanted to play and that didn't work (unless RetroPi on the Raspberry Pi handles this differently? I usually use non-merged sets to avoid confusion). Will definitely try again and try to convert to a non-merged set.

@Dochartaigh Just a tip not sure if tried this but the way I got CPS2 games especially and most other is through the update packs. The thing the with the update packs is they only include the files missing from the current rom you have althrough the have the same name, this is where the confusion was for me. Take a CPS2 game like sf2.zip for example you will see in one of the update packs(I believe its the .177 to .178) an sf2.zip file. In that file it will only contain the .key file needed for the rom to work in .39 FBA. All you need to do if you have winrar is drag the key file inside the update packs version of sf2.zip into the old version of sf2.zip. Place the combined file into your Pi and bam it should work. It seems to be mostly CPS2 games so that should be able to help you filter down, I have found old versions of CPS1 and even CPS3 work totally fine in .39.

I got some CPS roms .39 from a site, and now works perfect on Retropie 4.1!! sfa2, mvsc, sfIII, etc. The site have only individual rom download. I will wait for entire .39 romset torrent.

I have ran into so many issues with these rom set. It's really the fault of all these rom sites not listing the games or sets correctly or having different bios versions that work with different games and sets. It is very confusing.

I did it the sucker way by changing out roms and bios till I got most working.
