MAME ROW #11: Moon Cresta
-
@meleu Dedicated Post with complete set: overlay+cfg files+ install info
-
@UDb23 Wow!! It's cool and pretty handful!!
Man, I wonder if we could start a github repository to put some overlays for MAME ROW. What do you think?
-
@meleu Yes, good idea.
But I can't promise I can make a new one from scratch every week :-)) -
I love how the overlay file size is 46 times that of the actual game. :)
Now I need to learn how overlays work…
This forum, always making me learn new things.
-
@UDb23 it's just fine. Not every MAME ROW game deserves a so neat overlay.
But the simple ones, with the scoring scheme as you made here... it would be really cool. ;-) -
Too kool! I've had to put my gaming on hold until I get past some tough work assignments, but man, this overlay alone makes me want to drop everything and shoot some aliens.
-
@UDb23 Typo with one of the config files. you have
moooncrst.cfg
instead ofmooncrst.cfg
I renamed it to the latter and now it works with my setup. Also, thanks for that readme, and the overlay. It was very easy to set up.
Does anyone know how to take a screen shot with Retroarch that includes the overlay?
-
@obsidianspider If there's interest I could write a short tutorial on how to create these overlay graphics.
Basically usually it means:- searching the web a lot for good, or at least decent, original artwork (the older the game the more difficult)
- clean up and resizing of graphics ( Photoshop Elements)
- some vectorizing when needed (Inkscape)
- creation of actual Overlay (Inkscape)
-
@obsidianspider thanks for finding the typo. That's what happens when I do stuff late at night !
File & Link updated. -
@UDb23 I'm I daring too much... asking if it could be possible to make an overlay for New Rally-X (including the scoring scheme)?
:-) -
@meleu mmm.... let me think...
ok...need to find artwork ...
and ... anyway after the Marvel vs Capcom one that is already in the works ;-) -
Man I love how you're keeping this Mame Row going. Keep it up!
-
That overlay is excellent, thanks!
Somehow I managed to get to the docking stage, I'm not entirely sure how, as on other games I got further and it didn't appear.
Anyway, my best so far is a not too impressive 5840!
-
This game is hard . I think I scored 1200 or so on my second attempt - the first I died with 300 or so. So way to go @GtBFilms !
Thanks for the overlay as well @UDb23, it's a great alternative for an overlay with details about the game!
There's a really good one for Moon Cresta in the Arcade Bezels shared by John Merrit somewhere, and I believe in Floob's tool, I believe: https://github.com/biscuits99/rp-video-manager
They can be found here, I think:
https://github.com/libretro/arcade-overlays
in particular here:
Hope it helps as well, for inspiration or as an alternative! I think it's based on the actual cabinet.
-
@pjft Thanks for the link. I saw that one too, yes it reproduces the original bezel used in actual cabinets (I played the real thing many many years ago).
Personally I prefer using overlays with maximum game area, using original artwork (cabinet graphics or flyer), no curvature or reflections/shadows effects. -
-
@UDb23 Now that is flat out cool
-
@UDb23 Yeah, I'm not a great fan of the curvature either, to be honest. I still haven't settled on whether to use overlays or not, so I'm just trying thins and seeing what sticks.
I do need the scanlines overlay, though - without that it's really hard for me to enjoy playing any of these games :)
-
@pjft LOL!
Yes, those comets wiped me out!
