@ebtalk don't forget the ibuffalo SNES controller. Those are built pretty well

@herb_fargus The one issue I have with my Buffalo SNES style controller is the ghost inputs on the D-Pad. At first I thought it was in RetroPie, but looking around online it's just something they do.

@RetroFreak89 While not the easiest or cheapest to set up, I think the best option is to convert a 1st party controller to USB with a Raphnet adapter.

@herb_fargus no doubt. For whatever reason, I was strictly going wireless controllers. I say all that as i'm using an ibuffalo SNES controller right this moment. I've noticed the prices for those have skyrocketed lately.

Don't know about Logitech f710 but i have the 4 other pads (and many other xD), and i have to say official sega saturn pads with usb adapter and hori fighting commander 4 are far above if you don't need the analog stick and need a good dpad (the hori FC can emulate the analog stick though, but it is not cheap at all).

Edit : and by saturn gamepad, i mean any saturn gamepad except the MK-80100 (http://segaretro.org/images/thumb/f/f3/Saturnpad2.jpg/784px-Saturnpad2.jpg), you can find them between 15€ and 30€, i have 4 of them (relics from my saturn + 2 multitap + 3 unofficial gamepad + arcade stick + night gamepad + bomberman setup, RIP my saturn...), the usb adapter can be found around 10€. All of those still works 20 years later, the only issue i encountered was nothing i couldn't solve with some alcohol to clean up the pcb.

I have a suggestion for ya: Instead of grabbing an specific controller for all games, you can buy a controller of each console you like, and plug it on RPI through usb adapters.

Example: You can buy this SNES Usb controller for US$ 3,20, then you plug it on RPI and configure all buttons. This way, you'll have a great SNES experience with (kinda) original controllers.

Example 2: The same can be said about this Sega Saturn USB controller that costs US 8,96. You can use this little beast to play lots of Sega Genesis games, or fighting games such as Street Fighter Alpha, or even ports such as Streets of Rage Remake.

I don't know about those 2 specific unofficial controllers, but i know every unofficial controllers i ever bought had short lifespan and crappy dpad, so i wouldn't recommend that kind of controller.

@RetroFreak89 You could consider also:
Logitech F310 or Qanba Q1 Arcade controller (more "professional").
In addition I use also the iBuffalo for older games.

@barbudreadmon While this is generally true, I have had fantastic luck with the Super Famicom knockoff controller made by Cirka. It's sold for $15 or less (US), and mine has been receiving daily love and abuse for 6 months now with no issues. If I have one complaint, it's that I'd like the cord to be longer.

Can you connect a wii remote to the Pi, then connect the classic controller to it to use?

@DpM Probably not if you use sixad / ds4drv, otherwise yes.

I've tried via bluetooth Gamesir g3s, I find it very balanced for any emulator. it is basically a ps3 controller
