Testing of Advmame 3.0 with official raspberry pi support is good!

Now understand I got my pi 3 and the update to advmame 3.0 came out about the same time..so your experience will differ if using a pi B+ , zero, or pi2, of course.

      Really it is good
cp3 work..although it will drop to 75% so fba libretro core is still a better choice here
mk, mk 2, mk3 runs well..umk3 not so much.. (maybe the pi 4? :D)
samurai spirits 5 special and king of fighters 2003 work almost 100%
again fba libreto core being the better choice here.

Also on a fresh install of rasbian lite and an install of advmame with advmenu runs very well. Nice to have video snaps for us that don't have a 64gb card :P
(although they are getting cheaper every year!..I bought a 64mb (yes MB) sd card in 2002 for $150!..what was I thinking??)

And adding advmame 3.0 to the current version of retropie was easy.

People want things easy...but then complain that life is boring...

        Really interesting, thanks.

Did you try how it performs with vector games ?
I currently have an issue with that in advmame 1.4.

Could you give a quick description of how you got it to integrate with RetroPie? I'm on 4.1 and eveything runs smooth on my Pi3 (thay I care about) except the 6 player version of Xmen which is a just a bit slow and the music sounds like it is from one of those Hercules movies from the 50s and 60s. I'm hopeful the advmame 3.0 optimizations will be just enough to iron out the issues, and I'd like to give it a try.

@tribunal88 I don't think you will see any performance improvements from the new advmame - it just has some extra rpi hardware / graphics support out of the box.

@BuZz Can't hurt to try in this case though.

Now that I've had a chance to work with the new AdvMAME 3.x as part of RetroPie, I can confirm that it makes quite a big difference in overall performance. Several games which were unplayable before are now running at good speeds.

@tribunal88 I would also concur. Some of the Golden Tee series are a bit snappier, and the music isn't so wonky, as it was with the same settings I was using in 1.4.

Vector games no longer require the additional resolution settings. They render at whatever resolution you are running on your Pi. Previously, BuZz added a configuration that let you specify your display's native resolution, but you don't have to do that any more.

@akafox Dude, I'm kinda new at this. With tutorials I installed retropie with a bunch of emulators and roms in my p3b+ all fine this last year. Now I deleted all emulators and kept MAME cos wanna make an arcade cabinet for mame games only and I would love to launch the advmenu at boot. I love advmenu's simplicity.
Problem is I can't find any reasonable tutorials. The 'tutorials' I find are to advanced for me, like reading chinese.

You can edit the start-up file and remove Emulationstation command, then add the command to start advmenu - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#how-do-i-boot-to-the-desktop-or-kodi.

I know it is really late now! xD

but i have a complete list of games the will work on the rasp pi 3 listed by emulator
think anyone would post this in the Arcade link on the setup wiki?

Theoretically I would think you could setup Advancemenu or emulationstation and make it into an arcade cab easy if you wanted to.

I am working on making intro videos for NEO-GEO in mng format for andvancemenu as well.
