GLupen64 is dead... but GLideN64 + mupen64plus will get better!
-
the developer (@loganmc10 ) has thrown in the towel: https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/5sy37e/i_am_ceasing_development_on_glupen64_for_real/
BUT, he is focusing on GLideN64 (the best HLE graphics plugin, used by mupen64plus-GLideN64) and making mupen64plus's GUI better (though perhaps no benefit to pi), so pi n64 emulation still benefits from @loganmc10 's time :)
ultimately i think that means that the lr-glupen64 core will quickly become outdated compared to mupen64plus-GLideN64, so people should start moving to that as their default n64 emulator.

Any idea if the RetroArch team plans to integrate muppen64 RetroArch? I would love to play N64 games on my Pi

in a new twist, libretro have forked glupen64 so they will maintain a version now (it remains to be seen if they will keep up with gliden64 changes... it's already behind...but hopefully!)
it's called mupen64-libretro, which replaces the previous mupen64-libretro, which is now called parrallel-n64. confused? yes! https://www.patreon.com/posts/nintendo-64-core-8140492
i see retropie has been updated to reflect this.

Damn, this is confusing... I tried lr-mupen today but I guess it was the old one, because it behaved completely different than lr-GlupeN64.
Is it possible to see the status of the new lr-mupen and if it is available via setupscript?

did you update your setup script first? this only happened in the past day

@dankcushions I installed it yesterday. Probably wasn't live yet. I'll try again later.

I will update my script today, thank you very much
BTW: Is there a way to make the stick of my N64 gamepad work? I use a Mayflash USB adapter
-
@sergioad Yep, but you have to use xboxdrv. Just follow mediamoguls xboxdrv advanced mapping guide and the settings I use:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/7125/solved-deadzone-options-for-usb-controllers/2
Basically Mayflash/Hiujia adapters report the original values of the N64 controllers which is only about 80 steps in each direction. That's pretty low for modern controllers. For ease of use I remapped the controllers to a virtual Xbox controller and adjusted the analog values to be more in line what Emulation Station and Retoarch expect.
