MAME ROW #21 - Carnival

@lilbud I danced in 2003, now I'm just an alum that goes up to have fun and show support. This is my 16th THON.
-
@obsidianspider You went to Penn State?
-
@lilbud yeah, and as an active alum, in many ways, I never left.
-
@obsidianspider Here's a question, do they kick you out if you sit down?
-
@lilbud When it started in 1973 the last couple dancing was the winner. Now it's not a competitor and there is an enormous support network built to help each "dancer" complete the 46 hours. When I danced it was 48 hours. There's speculation about why they changed it to 46 hours in 2007.
As a spectator you're not allowed to sit in the stands. The justification is that it demoralizes the dancers, but as a former dancer, I call BS on that.
So, you're not really kicked out, but people don't really sit down either. If that makes sense.
THON is really a big party and celebration, not something where people get scolded or penalized for not "doing it right"
-
Sadly I've had a much less active weekend, and achieved only 5270 this week.
:-(
-
11580!
My new tactic is to go for the pipes first, as there is a countdown timer for how much they are worth.
Also top row targets are worth more than the lower two rows.
When low on bullets concentrate on bottom level ducks as they are the only thing that can kill you, keep the rest of the bullets for hitting 10 and 5 bullet targets to increase your ammunition again. More turn up if you wait a while.
On the bonus level let the polar bear get to the middle of the screen before shooting it.
On the second bonus level you kind of have to juggle two polar bears.
You can turn the music off by shooting the music symbol on the far right!
-
- Quite happy with that! I've enjoyed this one, more than the sum of its parts sort of thing.
-
I'm having a blast with this. My favorite since Phoenix. I may even post a score this time.
This is one of the few arcade games that received a truly excellent Atari 2600 port, which really preserved the look and feel of the game within the limits of the system.
-
favorite, phoenix
-
@lilbud Of the MAME rows, it's been my favorite so far.
-
MAME ROW #22 - created with @meleu's post creation tool as a test, is now live!
-
I think I don't have a favorite, but yeah, Phoenix was really fun and challenging to beat the @lilbud 's score.
A little retrospective:
- Pang is a great game and I play it now and then (and the @udb23 's overlay make it look even better).
- Air Duel and its helicopter is a great shooter!
- Puyo Puyo 2 is really fun to play versus with a friend (and in that week @mediamogul mentioned Super Puzzle Fighter, wich is a really fun puzzle game to play versus a friend).
- Frenzy is simple, chalenging and addictive.
- Cop 01 doesn't have anything that attractive, but I enjoyed it.
After Mystic Riders the Real Life started to demand more of my attention and then I'm playing only rarely...
-
@meleu I've hated Phoenix since I first played it on my Uncles Atari 2600. You move too slow and the enemies move too fast.
-
@lilbud said in MAME ROW #21 - Carnival:
You move too slow and the enemies move too fast.
and your fire is too small!
-
@meleu It's like the developers set out to make the most unfair arcade game, surprised the cabinets weren't broken in rage.
