      Pi3, latest 4.1.16 updates
      lr-PCSX-ReARMed

I use "Game Specific Options" on PSX to distinguish analog vs standard controller games.

Historically, I'd launch a game, menu in to RetroArch, change the controller type (standard/analog) and create/save the Game Options file. Then the input config to Retropad w/Analog & enable dpad to left joystick for games that don't support psx analog... and save Game Remap File. I also made a habit to Save Game Overrides before exitting. Everything worked like it should for both analog and standard controller games with this.

Over the weekend I did a clean installation and started configuring stuff after updating all packages (including kernel) to the latest 4.1.16 set.

NOW when I do the above psx configs, controls stop working for the game.

I notice that the .rmp remap files being saved to \retropie\configs\psx\PCSX-ReARMed are completely empty. Could this be the issue?

UPDATE: I used an extra SD card to make an original 4.1 image setup. Performed the above remap procedure, and everything worked as planned. So I copied the contents of these .rmp files and replaced the empty files on my updated image. no dice...
Ultimately, what is not happening is input pad type changes in retroarch; from the default "Retropad" to "Retropad w/Analog", and also the dpad joystick setting. Retroarch is able to create these .rmp files when prompted, but neither Core Remap nor individual Game Remap files are being correctly written to or read from.
      HELP
