What is the MAME ROW?

MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!

There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.

Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.

The current week's game thread is just where there are more people interacting/talking about the game(s). Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous "rounds" topics (links below).

These "rules" are constantly being improved!

Metal Hawk keeps yelling at me to go "DOWN" and from looking around for instructions or a flyer, it looks like there may be some additional control for altitude, but I can't seem to find it in the MAME control panel.

Zed Blade is a really fun side scrolling shooter. The graphics are a bit blockier than you'd normally expect from a Neo Geo title, but it's well done.

I'm really liking Roc N Rope but it does suffer from the "Donkey Kongness" of being an earlier arcade game and also from going up against more advanced titles in this week's contest.

After reinvestigating the MAME Control panel for Metal Hawk I see that you can either use the keyboard, or the Player 2 Up and Down to control the altitude of the helicopter. A bit cumbersome for my current setups. It'd probably work OK with a cabinet.

Zed Blade has my vote. It's a cool shmup with cool options of weapons to choose from the start.
And, at least the first stage, isn't so frenetic like other shooters we had on previous rounds, you have some time to get the "feeling". :-)

Having it playable in chrome helps.

Keep in mind, we are given school-issued computers which block any non-safe sites, (Social media sites.) And if a site has game related content, it is banned.

Twitter is banned and the reasoning is, "prohibited friendship content."

Most the the MAME ROW's, the games are on the internet arcade.

I screwed up putting in my name a few times because I was mid-blowing stuff up and it just kicks right into putting your name in at Game Over, but 428,050 has been my best so far.

Wow nice score, my best is a measly 128720 so far.

I noticed you also seem to accrue score just by shooting, regardless of whether you actually hit anything!

An enjoyable blast, though.

I haven't been able to best my top score, but I've been able to consistently get to level 3. At 200,000 points a 1-up will appear. I'm not sure about higher scores.

@meleu, do you want to set up the next round tomorrow, or shall I?
