I have successfully copied over my MAME roms, and they run correctly. In addition, most of the games are correctly labeled in the menu (rather than showing the 8-character file name).

However, some ROMs do not have the correct file name. For example, I see the file "8BALLAT2" in my list of games (which is actually the game Eight Ball Action [DKJr conversion]). The game itself runs correctly, but I am unsure why this game does not have the correct title.

After some troubleshooting, this is what I had learned that "8BALLAT2" is correctly listed in the MAME 0.78.dat file, along with most (likely all) of the other games missing a name. So, what causes this, and how can it be fixed?

      I am using:

      • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
      • RetroPie 4.2
      • lr-mame2003
      • The MAME 0.78 Romset

@jlachniet depends on if they are scraped or not and if the ES code has the filename parsed correctly (it's incomplete anyways)

          1. They are NOT scraped (the correct file names showed up automatically).

          2. If the problem is in ES, is it possible to use the MAME 078.dat file to make it display the correct names?

@jlachniet not without modifying code and recompiling. Would be easier just to filter your ROMs as you want them, and then scrape them with sselphs scraper.

            Code for reference:

You can press the select button in ES while the game is selected and you'll get a menu allowing you to edit the game's metadata. You can update the name of the game from this menu if it is appearing wrong.

@Capeman Normally that would be fine, but it is quite a pain for huge romsets (4k games or more)

Why would you need to install all 4000 games ?!!

@UDb23 Many people use complete ROM sets (every game a system supports). Although it is many games, it is still a very small file size.

@jlachniet I was thinking in terms of time ( to play) ...not file size ;-)
