How to replicate the problem:I am just wondering if Folders inside systems like MS-DOS/PC do not show videos or marquees? I've been trying to get them to show for the past hour here and all my stuff is typed in correctly. It shows on the .exe files in the folders, but not on the folders themselves.
-
@Dominus Is it related to this?
If so, I believe that got fixed a few weeks ago in the main ES. Have you tried updating ES from source?
-
The videos will only show on the may game selection menu. I will try to describe.
On the system select screen you you have the main system logo - PC
- You select PC and you go to the "video View" (if video's are present) or the Detailed view. At this level you will be able to see a games list and videos and images will show for all folders or roms that are listed in your gamelist. My example is psx. I have all my psx roms within folders, lets say I have Crash Bandicoot and it has multiple files (.bin and .cue), so they are in a folder within my psx roms.
Example /roms/psx/crash bandicoot/Crash Bandicoot.bin
When i enter the psx system menu i see a game listed as Crash Bandicoot and it will display images and preview videos. My gamelist points to:
<path>/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx/Crash Bandicoot</path>When i select Crash Bandicoot from the gamelist, i enter into a second menu, now the gamelist only shows one game, that is Crash Bandicoot (it only shows the .bin file within the folder) No videos or images will show at this level. Select this and the game launches.
To my knowledge it is not possible to have a gamelist for this level of folders, you can only have the gamelist for the main level.
@Dominus Can you give an example of your folder structure? I am guessing you have a structure where the roms are one level 2 deep to have images and videos.
-
@TMNTturtlguy I think you can have your main gamelist include elements that are located at further levels of depth. They just need to be all present in the main gamelist, the path would however point to
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx/Crash Bandicoot/Disc 1/Crash Bandicoot.cue
, for example.I'm pretty sure I had one such setup at one point for mame-libretro, but ended up giving up on that.
-
@pjft I think you are correct, i think i tested that out, however if you do that, then nothing will show up on the first game selection menu. I wonder what would happen if you had the rom on your gamelist twice. The first would be a path to just the folder like i currently have. The second entry would be to the .cue like you have. I think i had tested this out as well and it didn't work because the gamelist thinks that the folder is executable and tries to launch the rom, but there is nothing to launch.
In a case like @Dominus you could create an image or video for each separate "system" within the main system folder.
-
@pjft Hmm I don't know what the link is lol... or at least its hard to understand/read for me.
@TMNTturtlguy My folder structure will be
home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc/Fallout/
for example. Then there is a Fall.bat inside that folder. When I scroll to PC, it shows all the folders, it shows the video box, but it won't show the marquee or snaps. If I go into the folders, and highlight Fall.bat as above (and I've scraped it obviously), it will show the marquee and video for that file.
Another note on your PSX games. My folder I just have all the psx games in the same folder, but all the bins are named after the game.... so
crash bandicoot (track 1).bin, crash bandicoot (track 2).bin
etc, but it will only show the .cue files. Might be a lot of work for you though to rename everything and edit the cue files if they aren't named like above, but at least you won't need folders and can scroll and launch right away. -
@Dominus What theme are you using? does the theme support the marquees and snaps for that system? it might be as simple as the theme not having support for those items in that system?

I've switched between a couple of them. Carbon is the one I usually use and a variation of it.
-
@Dominus I know that carbon with video support does have the marquee in the .xml and should show at the top of the screen, i believe top left? I assume that the marquees show up on the other systems for you? If so, you might want to check your gamelist for the systems that are not showing properly. Double check that the paths for the marquees are correct and make sure that the folders containing the art are in the right spot. I know the default carbon theme only calls out "md_marquee", "md_video" and "md_image", so that is where you need to have your images/videos called out in the gamelist.
-
@Dominus as I said, though, have you updated ES?
And do your gamelist.xml files have elements that point to the folders explicitly, like @TMNTturtlguy described?

I updated the system yesterday and restarted and there was no difference, but just now after a complete shutdown and restart I noticed the system icons seemed bigger and closer together. So I decided to check the PC system and it did fix the marquee and videos for the folders! Not sure why when I reset yesterday it hadn't "updated" with the new settings.

@Dominus So everything is working as it should then? Interesting that the new updates are negatively affecting old themes. I have not noticed as i am not running one of the older themes, but it makes me wonder what it is doing to my theme on others machines. Since i don't have the carousel implemented yet, i would suppose that it would be affected in the same way?
Does anyone know what update is causing this? Is it in the most recent update from source when the black boxes on meta data fields was corrected? or did this start happening when the carousel was implemented?

I never noticed it before or after a certain point as I just decided to do my PC games this week.
