@abj The info you enter goes to/comes from the gamelist.xml file of each system. The media files I would keep away from the folders Skyscraper or other scrapers do use in general. E.g. do not put folder screenshots aso. into ~/RetroPie/roms/<system>/media/ which is the default for Skyscraper.

Heads up: Be informed that if you use Skyscraper that only the recent version (3.10.0) keeps your folder information in the gamelists, earlier versions did not keep the <folder/> elements in a gamelist.xml file.

@sleve_mcdichael I did it correctly(at least as it says in documentation), with the "retropie" folder and the USB in FAT32

Wanted to close this off after I thought about how I wanted to organize this.

      Here's what I've done.

I converted all the .bin files into .chd files to save on a little bit of space all around. In roms/psx/ I created a hidden .chd folder where I have subfolders for each game and their respective .chd or .CDX files. In roms/psx/ I have a several .m3u files, one for each game, that each point to the .chd directory, and the individual game folder where the relevant game files are located. This allows me to keep the roms/psx/ relatively clean which is what I was going for.

I really appreciate everyone's help in getting me to clean up the roms directory!

@cdaters These ES CLI switches may come in handy:

--force-kiosk: Volatile setting of Kiosk Mode when UI is set to Full mode.
--force-disable-filters: Disable Kiosk (and/or Kid) mode when UI mode is set to Kiosk (resp. Kid). Attn: This switch will be persisted if any change is made in the Settings via ES UI, otherwise it is volatile.

here is the methods of getting roms to the pis sd card
or probably the best way is to use an external USB drive and its just plug and play using this method

@soulrider911 said in RetroPie Wolf3d folder can not hide in Ports?:

as my other builds I did no have to do this.

On a stock RetroPie installation, this shouldn't be a problem. Post your es_systems.cfg on pastebin.com and we can see if the issue stems from there.

You shouldn't need to create manually any folders, they are created (with the correct name) when the corresponding emulator is installed. RetroPie already comes with emulators installed, so the basic folders should be already present.

The thing is these folders aren't appearing on my SD card that had Retro Pie on it.

If you're looking at the SD card's contents on a Windows PC, you will only see the boot partition, the 2nd partition holds the actual system (and the RetroPie installation), but Windows doesn't know how to read the Linux filesystem on it - so you won't be able to see the folders.

So, if I were to create folders manually, where would I create them on the USB?

No, you don't need to create the folders manually. If you want to transfer your ROMs over, take a look at the Docs. If your RetroPie system is connected to your network, the easiest method for transfer is via File Shares from your PC.

@UberLumby Yeah, I just stumbled upon subfolder scraping by accident myself. Also didn't expect the scrapers to do that.

(Like I noticed the "hide preview" button in the forum editor right now by clicking on it accidentally on my way to the "submit" button. 😆 )

That teaches one to tidy up behind oneself after compiling, lest you'll find the remains later when you don't remember putting them there. 😊

(Alas, data remains don't tend to decompose by themselves like other remains do.)

@flightrisk this is super old but symlinks are your friends
if you open terminal inside your retropie roms folder you could link your current setup and make a symlink that will work with retropie like
      ln -s "/home/user/downloads/Super Nintendo Entertainment System" "/home/user/retropie/roms/snes"
ln -s makes a link between your source and your new fake symlinked folder
inside first quote is where ever your nicely named folder is and the second quote is where you want the new fake folder and as you see its names snes so retropie will use think it accessing a folder names snes but when it goes to snes the system forwards it to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System folder. idk i thought i would share as this is what i do to link to my other hard drive and it works awesome one folder for all systems to access i just make symlinks and all is well
