Cannot map x-arcade on Fbalpha

lr-fbalpha. I have a x-arcade, which is to be considered as a keyboard

@mikikiki ok so the FBA2x config file does not apply. Perhaps you could share your retroarch.cfg via pastebin. Are you accidentally using smart quotes?
-
@caver01 YES, this was the problem. However I can't understand how to use a single setup in FBA for all the roms: when I config controls for fighting games like Street fighter, I get odd buttons configuration of other old games like Shinobi, or Shoot 'em ups...
Maybe I will use mame2003 which seems more coherent and more easy to config
-
@mikikiki You need to setup different configs for different games. You can build a default with the retroarch.cfg that is in the folder for that emulator. Build this one with the controls setup for the most games that use that emulator. Then, inside the roms folder and next to the roms that need it, add another config file named
rom.zip.cfg
(of course, use the right name of the rom) and inside these files, add lines for the key mapping that you need. Basically, these per-rom configs will override the default for THAT GAME ONLY. -
I had to do this for FBA on my arcade cab, one tip i have is if you make a config for something like street figher 2, just copy paste and rename it for every other capcom fighter since they all use the same 6 button layout (mostly). Saves time writing the same file over and over.

maybe I will use different folder for different MAME genres, like "mame fighting", "mame trackball", "mame spinner", "mame lightgun" and so on; I think, in this case, I could use button configurations for the whole folder, I don't need per rom configuration right?
-
@mikikiki I'm not sure you can set a per folder config, I thought it was per emulator and per game. If you can figure that out, let us know.
-
I think it's quite easy:

-
@mikikiki I am pretty sure that when you said new folder, we were all thinking a folder within the same system. You are citing how to create a new system, which should work fine.
By the time you have that setup, you could have made the per-game copies of configs. I understand the desire for consistency among a group of ROMs, but in my experience, when I share my arcade with friends, they don't understand why some arcade games are over here in this system, but when they want to play other games they need to back out and look for them over there in another system. To them, it's all arcade games. I tend to agree. They don't care (nor do they want to learn) about the reasons one emulator works better than another, or why one system has a configuration for controls that works differently than another. This is why I use the Arcade folder for everything. I can launch different versions of MAME or FBA with per-game configs if necessary--all from the same list of games.
