      I throw a flash drive into the mac, format in FAT2, create a folder for retropi and then plug it into the pi, the light still blinks on the drive and wont ever write anything to the usb flash drive. I try to connect using wifi and a file sharing app, i can ping the IP adress of 10.0.0.2, but it always fails to connect with my mac. also, how do i image the sd card on mac? i've searched everywhere and am getting frustrated with all of it! im a beginner so bear with me and explain easily. thanks!

        I assume that you're attempting this particular method. If you've named the folder "retropi", then that's likely to be your problem. The folder needs to be named "retropie".

            Trust me, I've been on GitHub, YouTube, wikis, everything. I've named the folder retropie. It still doesn't work

              I believe ApplePiBaker is what I use on my Mac though I can not in safe conscience recommend it fully given that it's closed source and asks for your sudo password...

              I've heard others recommend etcher.io, I believe that's the name? Anyway, these should help!

              Best.

                  @pjft PiBaker asks for your root password??? I would avoid that like a Jehovah's Witness avoids blood transfusions.

                    @AlexMurphy I know, and it's about time I change.

                    I believe you're on the etcher camp, right? Last time I checked I believe it doesn't really do backups, unless I'm mistaken. Any particular recommendations for a nice SD card backup solution for Mac - ideally one that stores it straight to a zip file?

                    ApplePiBaker does it, and that's one of the main reasons I use it, but year, it is not something I am happy about.

                    I could go the full command-line route and just do "dd > zip" myself, maybe that needs to be the way. I'm already doing rsync in the terminal for the USB drive...

                      @pjft MACs aren't my thing, I leave them to the GF and the young wan. Everyone I see talks about dd In fact I saw etcher get ripped to shreds on reddit by people criticising them for just over-complicating dd. Saying that, I do like a nice GUI and I have no issues with it. Straight into a zip? You could ask them to add it. They seem like they are willing to help.
