      @Muddyhardcore

      Emulation Station needs to be shutdown before making any manual changes, otherwise it'll save over them the next time it exits.

        @mediamogul I'm not understanding what you mean. If using the built-in scraper to get the images. That's worked fine for me before. When I shutdown my Pi I do get an error saying that there's no gamelist found for kodi and doom. How do I add the images I want to use with Emulationstation shutdown?

          When you said you were adding them manually, I assumed that meant that you were editing the gamelists with an outside text editor. In fact, I'm still a little unsure of what it is that you're trying to do. Kodi and Doom shouldn't have their own gamelists anyway, as they reside in the ports menu. If you would, post the contents of your /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt file. Also, as always when making a help request, please post the information requested at https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

            @mediamogul I'm not trying to add a gamelist. I have 2 items(Kodi, Doom) in the Ports menu. I wanted them to have an Image/Artwork and description like all of my Roms do. I use the built-in scraper to get the Artwork and description, then scroll down and click save. After this, Kodi and Doom both have the artwork and description that was scraped. Unfortunately once I restart emulationstation or shut down the Pi, the Artwork and description from the scraper are no longer there. I'm just trying to figure out why. I don't know how to upload what you asked me to. I'm sorry for being a noob.

              Ah, I got ya now. Make sure that 'Save Metadata on Exit' is set to yes under 'Other Options' in the Emulation Station settings.

                  When you restart Emulation Station, are you you doing it from within the 'Quit' options in the settings?

                      As a troubleshooting measure, try altering the information of an item outside of the Ports menu and then restart ES to see if it's applied.

                        Ok I was able to change the artwork and description for the one Game Boy Color Rom I have and it was still applied after restarting emulationstation station

                          Very bizarre. When I get a chance, I'll try to alter an item in the Ports menu of my setup.

                            I did try using that Universal XML scraper a while ago to do this. Could that have created a file that can't be overwritten?

                              I'm not familiar with that scraper, but it's a consideration if nothing else pans out.

                                Alright, mine is saving as it should. Let's try removing your current gamelist.xml from the equation first. While in Emulation Station, drop to the command line by pressing 'f4' on your keyboard. From there type:

                                cp /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml.bak

                                Press 'enter', then type:

                                emulationstation

                                Press 'enter' and once Emulation Station fully launches, try applying information to one of the items in the Ports menu and restart ES to see if it then persists.

                                    Looking at the log might help. To do that you'll need to familiarize yourself with SMB or SFTP so that you can copy the log contents of /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt and post it here.
