      Alright, mine is saving as it should. Let's try removing your current gamelist.xml from the equation first. While in Emulation Station, drop to the command line by pressing 'f4' on your keyboard. From there type:

      cp /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml.bak

      Press 'enter', then type:

      emulationstation

      Press 'enter' and once Emulation Station fully launches, try applying information to one of the items in the Ports menu and restart ES to see if it then persists.

          Looking at the log might help. To do that you'll need to familiarize yourself with SMB or SFTP so that you can copy the log contents of /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt and post it here.

                    We might be getting somewhere. Now post the contents of /home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml. You can also use pastebin if it's easier.

                        From /home/pi when I open the .emulationstation folder I'm then brought to /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation

                        From there /gamelists/ports gameslist.xml and gamelist.xml.bak are both blank

                          To quote the big book of mechanic clichés, there's your problem. Exit out of Emulation Station completely and then copy the following into your /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml.

                          <?xml version="1.0"?>
                          <gameList>
                          </gameList>

                          You can also delete /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/ports/gamelist.xml.bak. When you restart ES, you should be good to start adding info. I don't know why it wouldn't have added that information when it created a new file.
