      Have you tried setting audio_sync to on in RetroArch? I'm not sure it solves the same thing you're experiencing, but I had audio distortion when frame rates skipped and this helped a bit. It was a long time ago so I might be misremembering things though.

      @binarybond007

      I have the same problem (same ALSA error initializing Vice) with Hifiberry DAC+ Standard, but it seems that I only have one sound module. I was hoping somebody could hint a solution because everything works except Vice (and it is my favourite computer)

      If I type

      cat /proc/asound/modules

      I get

      0 snd_soc_hifiberry_dacplus

      The rest of my configs:

      etc/asound.conf

      pcm.!default {
      type hw card 0
      }
      ctl.!default {
      type hw card 0
      }

      pi@retropie:~ $ cat /boot/config.txt

      hdmi_group=2
      hdmi_mode=9

      (comment) Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
      (comment) dtparam=audio=on
      dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus
      gpu_mem_256=128
      gpu_mem_512=256
      gpu_mem_1024=256
      overscan_scale=1

      aplay -l

      @gotwood3001 If you exit emulationstation with F4, you will be taken to the command prompt. From there you can edit files with the nano text editor. There is a much easier way though to edit /boot/config.txt and that is to use winscp or putty to access it via the network. Read more. Video tweaks here.

      @mikedyj If you look in the Wiki there is a section about sound issues https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Sound-Issues

      Read through this and try the suggested fixes. Also try another HDMI lead if that fails.

      Old topic I know, but I created it so live with the bump! lol

      So my 16-year old cousin brought his Pi Zero I built for him over to his buddies house and the sound wouldn't work. Regular consumer-style like 50" flatscreen (he didn't remember the brand/model), with the same cable he uses at home. After my other cousin had an issue with sound on an older ~32" Sony I've used hdmi_drive=2 on all of these. Any suggestions on what to try?

      The elinux wiki says to also try adding:

      hdmi_force_hotplug=1 hdmi_force_edid_audio=1

      but I honestly have no clue what those do and haven't seen them referenced anywhere else...

      Hi All,

      I had a similar problem when I wanted to save the settings for using Joysticks in vice. And after that all games runs very very fast and no sound was enabled.

      I tried already deinstallig and rebooting and new installation. But I had the same problem. UNTI: I removied the files from

      /opt/retropie/configs/c64/

      After taht and restarting the emu I worked again - god sake!!!
