    @sleve_mcdichael

    Technology hates me so things such as this are my norm. =) Thanks for the help, you presented the actual problem and I will work on the script. I found a site that has all emu movies at the correct bitrate or whatever is off.

    @binarymessiah said in Low volume on videos with OMX+PCM:

    Yeah not using OMX leaves me with no sound in the video snaps

    That means the vlc built-in video player doesn't have the right audio settings. I remember now a while back a similar topic with the audio output from the Picade, the issue was that the I2S card doesn't have a volume control exposed to ALSA, so the volume slider has little effect.

    Does alsamixer show any volume control for your card ? I assume that the configuration for the Picade has disabled the on-board audio, otherwise in-game sound wouldn't have worked.

    @mitu good day!
    I was testing some mame video snaps on retropie.
    Im well aware of the new default being VLC and that retropie is moving away from omxplayer.

    On my system, video snaps from same source, some play ok some other not. They produce the blackscreen as per this post.

    In VLC settings ffmpeg HW acceleration is disabled in codecs section. I cant find yet what is VLC missing and cant paly these files.

    This is on a pi4 2GB model with latest updates and retropie.

    For testing im providing this small 900KB argus.mp4 video snap
    https://mega.nz/folder/2HAxmYJR#nNsMz6pZDkn1T36ASe5ZCg

    I have on my system also installed the MPV. This one works great on all problematic video snaps.
    VLC requires re-encoding of the files to work ok

    Here is my testing from command line

    And running the re-encoded (as per above) video snap, which now vlc can play OK!

    @Clyde said in Subtitles error with OMX Player on Pi 4 with RetroPie 4.6:

    Two more questions, does VLC have HA "just like that" or do I have to activate it somehow?

    No, hardware acceleration is used by default.

    And does OMX have any advantages left over VLC?

    Yes, it's still faster than VLC with HW acceleration in EmulationStation.

    Actually, Emulationstation has had some scripting added recently (see the docs about it), but it currently doesn't have any related events for screensaver start (the wake event might be used when stopping the screensaver).

    @Sebiohazard Ah ok.

    As far as the media question, the theme configuration file(s) will pick what media it uses, so you're safe to include all the gamelist supported tags that you want.

    Most of the time with themes, in [Detailed] view it will show <image> and possibly <marquee>, but when using [Video] gamelist view, it will show <image> for 0-3 seconds then it will be replaced with <video>, so you can add whatever supported tags & media you want and the theme itself will determine which one it uses.

    (I've seen some themes that only use <video> in video mode so it will show an empty box if there is no video, but other themes will use <image> in place of <video> if the video file is missing, so it's a good idea to have both <image> and <video> )
