Rebuild fba/mame romset to remove clones
-
Hi, i have2 non-merged romsets, one for fba and one for mame. These take up a lot of space. I have read that you can use clrmamepro to rebuild a romset. I'm wondering if you can use this to remove clones/differen regions so i have only one rom per game to save space.

@Wouter I posted a script for it a few months ago:

Hi Meleu,
thanks for your advice. I tried your script but without any succes.
No roms were copied to the new folder. See the log filefor your reference: i've tried this on the 2016 FBA reference set v0.2.97.39
maybe something to do with the gamelist?thanks for your help,

@Wouter I'll look into it when I get home. Thanks for the log, but, please edit your post and delete that other link.

@meleu hi, i've deleted the other link. My apollogies, i wasn't aware this isn't allowed.
Thanks!

@Wouter hey man. I tried here and the script just works.
Pay attention at the command line:
usage: noclones_fba-next.sh /path/to/original/romset /noclone/romset/destination
I used this command:
./noclones_fba-next.sh ~/path/to/my/complete/romset/directory ~/RetroPie/roms/fba/
What command did you use?

Yes, you are right! I copied the path from nautilus but in this process it replaced the spaces with %20 thus pointing to an non-existing directory in which it could not find the roms in quedtion.
I've corrected the path and now it's working like a charm! Many thanks!
ps: could i adapt this script to work with mame romsets as well (by pointingf to different gamelist i suppose?)

it's on github! mess with the code as you wish! If you share the results with us it'll be very much appreciated. ;-)
But, keep in mind that this line of code takes into consideration the fbalpha gamelist text format. Where are you planning to get the mame gamelist txt file from?

Well, actually that was my question :-). I'm not so familiar with arcade romsets let alone how to rebuild them..
Guess I'll stick with clrmamepro for my mame romset. If i've found a solution, a certainly will post this into this topic!Much thanks for your help!
