@herb_fargus It should, it just plugs in like any other SNES controller. I'm more curious about how the joystick and action buttons feel.

        @obsidianspider
I remember the Asciiware Super Advantage controller being a pretty well made controller with good action on the buttons and joystick but the button layout it a little odd:

          Y X
        L B A R

It has probably been close to 20 years ago that I've actually played on one thought.

@backstander What action button layout would you use?

          I'm strongly leaning toward

          L X R
          Y B A

I vaguely remember having this conversation before somewhere lol

I think I'd personally go with something like:

            Y X L
            B A R

            I'm strongly leaning toward

The Score Master's layout doesn't look like a bad setup but I've never played on one before so I couldn't speak from experience.

The first doesn't seem very good for "Street Figher controls" games...
@backstander I second this layout (maybe excepted for NeoGeo 4 buttons fighting games)

Just in case, I know it's USB and not really retro, but my hori fighting stick mini just does the job, for 30€ :)
The 2 rows of 4 buttons allow to always select a nice mapping, including 4 in-line buttons for Neo-Geo.

Yes, the one also compatible with PS3 and PS4 :
                    https://www.amazon.fr/Manette-Fighting-Stick-Mini-pour/dp/B019MMN94A
It's a pretty decent low-price fighting stick, but for occasional arcade use with RPi I found it sufficient.
Of course if you're a pro fighting game player, this won't satisfy you :)
There is no turbo, but it doesn't bother me.

I just noticed @pluger's Retropie Arcade Stick Custom Case
                      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/88725

And it looks like he's using:

                      Y X R1 L1
                      B A R2 L2

R2 and L2 wouldn't be needed for most of the emulators on RetroPie but could be bond to special functions.

It's the layout of most PS3/4 fighting stick (including Hori).
But Retroarch has a native option to switch to

                        Y X R1 R2
                        B A L1 L2

Very useful for street fighter like controls :)
