Nintendo Playchoice-10 Overlays Interest Check
-
edit: mame shows 53 games. as soon as i figure out what the game is called i will make an overlay and update the zip file.
UPDATE: here is the download for the overlays for 52 nes playchoice-10 games. These are for 1920x1080 only. These are for the .nes roms only. they are not for mame at the moment until i can get clarification of all the mame/ arcade folders there are.
Click Here for 1920x1080 Playchoice-10 Overlays
I am creating an overlay set for all the 52 playchoice-10 overlays. I was curious if there was interest for them. now that i have the template all done, it will be just a matter of cut and pasting to get the others done.
-
@edmaul69 Are the scanlines a part of the overlay?
-
@lilbud no. That is the crt-pi shader. As you can see it is only in the game and not the overlay. Overlays sit on top of shaders so you wont ever see scanlines on the overlay itself.
-
@edmaul69 I love the overlays as they add more authenticity to the games. Thanks for your efforts and when can I download :)
-
@jozzy1 i will be spending the next few days creating them, so hopefully by next week. I will be sending it to @mediamogul to test so if there are any problems it will be fixed before i release them.
-
-
@meleu the only issue i have with having it in some installer is that i have to use config files to reposition the games screen to the left.
-
@edmaul69 oh... I thought you were about to provide the config file as well...
Like @UDb23 does in his rpie-ovl repo. -
@meleu i was planning on releasing the configs. If that is possible to do with the overlays on github, i will need to figure out how to do it. I was kind of lost and confused by the last link you gave me though. I have 33 of the 52 overlays done so i will be completely finished in a couple days.
-
@meleu also can you send me an email thats in my sig. let me know here when you do. I would like you to test them for me.
-
@edmaul69 email sent. Do you have a github account?
-
@meleu i have not created one yet. I will try to get that done today.
-
@meleu @mediamogul i sent an email to you guys.
-
@meleu @mediamogul ignore the email part about needing some screenshots. i think i have them.

@jozzy1 i have them finished. I need to send the finished version to my two involuntary testers :) with the mame configs included. Then hopefully i can figure out how to get it correctly listed on github, then you should hopefully be able to get it through retropie somehow.
-
@edmaul69 hey bro, I got the email. They are supposed to be used with actual NES roms/emulator, right?
-
@edmaul69 They don't look fine on my test screen (1366x768):
It's obviously caused by the lines
custom_viewport_width = "1411" custom_viewport_height = "1080"
in the config file.
Maybe @UDb23 could help here: how can I put the game screen on the left without hardcoding the viewport width/height?
@edmaul69 after solving this issue about resolutions, etc. all you need to do to make your overlays installable via rpie-art is described here:
https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art#how-can-i-make-the-script-able-to-install-my-custom-art -
@meleu i had been designing them based on a 1080 resolution. have you had any issues using overlays made for 1080 before? I actually couldnt get the game image to appear without setting the custom viewport x & y due to the need to moving the image to the left. If i can figure out how to do that then it might work with other resolutions.
-
It would definitely be ideal if they could be used at any resolution. I'm running at 1080 here. I'll test some this evening for comparison.
