I am having issues launching Kodi 17.3 on a fresh install of retropie 4.3. No add-ons or anything have been added.

Originally thought this might be due to using a PS3 controller via bluetooth as I've seen several topics on that issue, but even when trying with just a stock USB controller, the same issue occurs. Kodi will begin to boot, then endlessly hang at the launch. I can't exit or proceed from this point.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

First, update your system. Kodi 17.4 is now available.
Than, provide the info requested here:

        And also the kodi log:

@exonerated I have that the majority of the times I have my PS3 controller plugged in via USB. It stays stuck in a never ending black screen restart loop - both at startup and on exit.

If it's the same thing, I find that unplugging it usually helps.
