*SOLVED* [Help Retropie 4.3] Some MAME2003 roms not working after update

@mrjordaaany said in [Help Retropie 4.3] Some MAME2003 roms not working after update:
You plan to do more testing once you have the time? So at some point there will be a fix roll out potentially?
Im looking over my commits for errors there are 90 odd so it will take some time. but if i cant get to the bottom of this then anyone with build
issues will need to petition the custodians of the libretro mame-2003 core to roll it back to the original versionIt's outta my hands in that regard!!

@markwkidd said in [Help Retropie 4.3] Some MAME2003 roms not working after update:
@gamez-fan once a libretro build environment is set up the first time, it is very easy to compile libretro cores for testing purposes.
Are you interested in setting up your environment? If you provide your operating system I'm glad to help you get it done quickly and painlessly. I think your project is very important so I'm motivated to help any way I can! :)
Hi if the offer still stands i'd like to take you up on this, i use my ole machine for dev which has the Vista OS
-
Until this is fixed, I could upload September's core binary so you don't have to extract it from the original image.
Does anyone need it?
-
@matchaman I need it please :)
But then what do I do with it? How do I install mame2003 from the code binary?
Many thanks!
-
There you go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/smbzkl7ccleytth/mame2003_libretro.rar
Extract the mame2003_libretro.so file and then replace it in /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mame2003/ (you must be root)
Cheers!
Edit: link fixed
-
@matchaman mame2010? i think you have uploaded the wrong mame ;)
-
@matchaman @dankcushions Unless he mistakenly renamed it haha
But yes, is it the mame2010 core?
-
Oops, it's getting late here! hahah
I'll fix that in a minute :)
...aaaand done! Check the link again.
In order to verify the downgrade, while running a ROM, open the RetroArch menu and it should show 'MAME 2003 0.78 cb4826a'
-
@matchaman Thank you. Just replaced it now but no dice still. Anything else I could be missing?
-
Check my previous post. Enter the RA menu while running a ROM (default is hotkey+F1) and at the bottom there should be 'MAME 2003 0.78 cb4826a'
Additionally, make sure that rewind is not enabled. MAME doesn't work well with it. Also if you have any game-specific files created, delete them.
-
@matchaman Yup I can confirm that is the case. Hmm I wonder what else I am missing. The same roms are still crashing, but on a clean 4.3 image they are fine. No other files need to be replaced?
-
It's possible that the games have created save/record files that are incompatible with the (slightly) older core. They are located in your ROMs folder and they usually feature ROM names but not .zip extensions.
romname.fs
romname.hi^------- typical examples. Also remove any .cfg files of the afore in case they force some unknown option.
-
@matchaman Yup removed all that. Still not working. I just popped in my other sd card with a fresh 4.3 image and some of the problematic roms. They work fine. I can confirm the base 4.3 image is 'MAME 2003 0.78 cb4826a' as well.
What could be the dam problem? It only start happening after I updated Mame2003.
-
That's really strange. I just tried those ROMs and they work fine on my setup, using the core file I shared.
Maybe it has to do with some other update (driver maybe?)...
A real head scratcher this one! :/
-
@matchaman Sure is! Bugging the hell out of me. I have a few more ideas then I will just do a fresh 4.3 install.
-
Try updating runcommand. If it doesn't help, replace the text in /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh with this (mine which works fine):
-
@matchaman I've replaced the runcommand data and rebooting now.
Some games will launch though, then crash a few seconds after. Others crash right away. Testing now!
-
@matchaman STILL NO DICE. Bugger this. At this stage it is not worth the effort. I am just going to do a fresh 4.3 install.
I have the process down at this stage so it doesn't take that long to do these days.
-
I don't know what's the issue here but i'm 99.9% sure it's unrelated to @gamez-fan 's fixes, all the games mentioned here work totally fine with the latest mame2003-libretro commit for me.
-
Yeah a few people on here seemed all too quick to lay the blame at my door :) anyway no matter i have added all the code changes i made to
a ole MAME76 core and for good measure a MAME72 core also and what'ya know both builds fully compile with not one single error or warning
from any of my code additions so i can only conclude the problems reported here are being caused by something else
