      I checked out the mame4all sourceforge. Apparently the SELECT+START exit feature used to be in the code, but was removed for some reason. Now it only supports keyboard quitting.

      WHY? Makes no sense why the author would do that. Not even giving us the option to enable or disable.
      Not everyone is going to plug in a keyboard to play mame.

        Have you considered lr-mame2000 instead of mame4all?

          How to get the retropie to use lr-mame2000 for everything instead of lr-mame2003 when files are dropped in the mame-libretro directory?

            @neo-rio press a button on the runcommand screen (grey box) as you launch a ROM. Change default emulator.

              @jonnykesh
              But wouldn't I have to do that for all the games as loaded? Seems time consuming.
              Any way to ensure that everything in that directory gets started by lr-mame2000 by default?

                @neo-rio no. You can choose per rom or default for system. This is all covered in the docs. You should take the time to have a read through them.

                  I'm already looking at the docs for lr-mame2000
                  It doesn't say anywhere exactly how I can set everything to mame2000 by default.

                    @neo-rio no it doesn't. Why would it? As I said, you should read the docs. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommand

                      Ah OK. Figured it out.

                      noticed that lr-mame2000 isn't quite as good as mame4all is.

                      Street Fighter II runs at full speed in mame4all and has smoothed out graphics. lr-mame2000 nearly runs full speed and is blockier - but at least it has start-select to exit the game.

                        Only because you choose it to be. https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Shaders-and-Smoothing/
