PSX emulator problem.
-
Hello,
I'm completely new to this forum and to retropie. I actually just bought it as a christmas present for my sister who used to love playing all the old ps1 games back in the day. I've been searching old posts trying to resolve my issues and i'm pretty certain that i've read the solutions but simply don't understand how to put them into action. I am bad as it is with computers in general, but I draw a complete blank when it comes to different operating systems other than windows. So here is my information and what I have gathered so far; if anybody knows a solution to my problems I would be absolutely grateful:
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: 2.4A mini usb
RetroPie Version Used: 4.3
Built From: I downloaded retropie-4.3-rpi2_rpi3.img.gz and prepped the microSD card through a youtube tutorial.
USB Devices connected: My keyboard and a ps3 controller
Controller used: ps3
Error messages received: NO BIOS FOUND- COMPATABILITY ISSUES
Emulator: lr-pcsx-rearmedSo i've read just about every single post where this BIOS problem has ocurred. I've downloaded the SCPH1001.BIN, left it all in capitals and transferred it to the MicroSD card in my raspberry pi using my USB stick (I've done the same with my roms). But what happens is that the only game that will even start is Crash Bandicoot 1. I've made sure that none of the other roms are in the .bin format, and they appear on my menu but I always get that same "NO BIOS FOUND..." message, and then just a black screen.
I read that it could have something to do with needing to manually place the BIOS file into the home/retropie/BIOS folder through the file manager, but I have no Idea how that works at all. I have watched tutorials and tried to immitate the commands but I have had no success. I just put it into my USB stick (in the BIOS folder of course) but it doesn't work.
I prepared my microSD card following tutorials and my system starts up just fine, but I have no idea if I went wrong somewhere in the beginning of the installation or if it's something very simple to do with the location of the BIOS folder that I just can't get my head around.
I feel that it's just my lack of knowledge, but I have tried to try* everything that has been suggested in this forum concerning the psx BIOS "problems". I just don't know if i'm doing it right... Please, if anybody patient has the time and knows where I might be going wrong I would really appreciate their help.
Thank you. -
@pobs You just have to copy the BIOS file in the
/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS
folder, as descried in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#bios.
Is you RetroPie system connected to the network ? If so, can you open\\retropie\bios
from your PC in Windows Explorer ? Copy the BIOS file there (\\retropie\bios
) and try again running the game(s). -
Hello, thank you for your quick reply. I accessed the pi through my windows explorer like you said and my SCPH1001.BIN file was in the BIOS folder just like it was meant to be. But I always get the same error message anyway. Could I have gone wrong somewhere else during the set up? How come that 1 game works without a problem without the BIOS and no other games even launch?

@pobs humour me and remove the bios over the network and try and transfer it again over the network. There was previously an issue with bios transfer over USB that may have mangled the file (though it generally just wouldnt transfer)
Also verify the md5sum just to make sure it isn't the wrong file
-
@pobs Then check the .cue files you copied - their contents is plain text and references the .bin files. Make sure the content of the .cue is similar to the actual file name - Linux is case sensitive on file names. See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/PC-Engine/#pc-engine-cd for an explanation and check the filenames for the .bin file afterwards.

I removed it and put it back and nothing changed. Sorry, like I said I don't understand much about how this works, what is the md5sum? How do I verify if it's wrong? I did a search and i can't find it anywhere.

I checked and on a different game (crash bandicoot 2) I have a .bin file and a .cue file. The .cue file is 111bytes while the .bin is 183Mb but bothe file names look exactly the same, except the .bin/.cue of course.

'I've made sure that none of the other roms are in the .bin format'What do you mean by this?
You could try replacing the bios file with one downloaded from another source.
You can also try some eboots (ps1 games in a psp compatible format, also known as psx2psp). These are just one file each (.pbp) and should work fine.
