Texture loading for OOC stalls around 700MB, system appears to freezes

Model: Pi 3 with heat sink and fan
SD: 128GB, with about 6GB free
RetroPie Version: 4.3 with latest updates (as of 12/23/2017)
Texture: Zelda OOT - Community Pack from EmuTalk Community

I enabled textures for OOC and the system basically comes to a halt while loading. The last time I tried it reached around 2420 files at just over 700MB. Is this texture pack too much for the Pi? Should I try/use something smaller?
