Emulators not respecting aspect ratio.
-
Just got a Retropie and it’s awesome, however it seems that no matter how I set my my config, it doesn’t respect the aspect ratio. Most retro games around 4:3 and I have all the cfg settings to 4:3 but when I fire up Street of Rage 2 it’s filling up my screen.
I’m plugged into a 1080p TV via HDMI, and if I go into RetroArch while the game is running (select and X) I can change the setting (which is at 16:9 every time)
Any suggestions? It doesn’t have to be 4:3, it can be the original aspect ratio scaled up to fit my screen. I just don’t want to have to set it manually every time I open a game.
Any suggestions are welcome.

@anothervenue by default almost all emulators will be the correct original aspect ratio. i feel your changing the settings has affected this somehow - you don't need to change anything.

@anothervenue Please show us the output of this command in Retropie (quit Emulation Station to get to the command line).
cat /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg | grep aspect

Did you save the settings after that? (Retroarch main menu, "Configurations", "Save Current Configuration")

@dankcushions No, it didn't. This is why I started messing around with the settings. I immediately went to Streets of Rage 2 on Genesis, since I know that game like the back of my hand. It was displaying in 16:9 and I know that game is 4:3
video_aspect_ratio = "-1.000000" aspect_ratio_index="21" video_aspect_ratio_auto="true" video_force_aspect="false"
And I've tried to save the config 100 times in the RetroArch menu in the game.

Also, when I load a game, I'm seeing something say
Configuration Override Loaded
, which I am guessing is what is messing things up.Where would configurations be overridden at?

Try looking into
config/retroarch/config/
, this is where core and game override configurations are stored. -
@anothervenue See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#config-hierarchy and https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10799/controller-not-working-on-psx-games-except-from-two/6 about overrides. You may have saved an override by accident.

for the record, it definitely is the correct AR by default...

How did you come by your RetroPie setup? Did you personally install and configure everything?
