Erm.. So this is probably a real rookie question, but after my fresh install and running different MAME romsets from one location (the Arcade folder), I cannot get Donkey Kong (MAME2003 0.78) samples to play.

The game is run from USB (/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/dkong.zip) and sample are placed at the default place (/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/samples) and I just copied both game and sample files again to be 100% sure they're both from the MAME2003 romset.

Still, no samples play (when DK jumps the steelgirders, no boom-boom sounds, and no Mario run- or jumpsounds). This worked in my old build!

The retroarch.cfg files in the /opt/retropie/configs/arcade and /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro contains nothing else than default.

      Runcommand.log looks like this

System is Retroarch 1.6.9 and RetroPie version 4.3.7.

@andershp you should update mame2003 by binary first, as some samples were 'broken' by recentish updates, which have since been reverted. if that doesn't work, try updating it via source.

@andershp For older games if i had sound sample issues I went "up the ladder".

I am going to assume you are on a raspberry pi 3

I would suggest using advmame if you can...problem with samples if they are not named correctly (the files inside the zip) or in the correct format then they will not play.

As andership said try to update..if that does not work..try another version of mame and a newer sample set.

People want things easy...but then complain that life is boring...
