      Hello.

      RPI3B+
      2.5A 5V power supply
Retropie 4.4 with all updates installed as of 27.10.2018
      Built from retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img
      USB Devices connected: none
      Kingston 64GB SD card
      Error: none

It seems I can't reconfigure my hotkey binds. I want to remap the save/load buttons and have a L2 fast forward hold on my SF30Pro when playing NES games. When I enter the retroarch menu from emulationstation my custom binds are visible in the opt/configs/all/retroarch.cfg but when playing a game only the default ones work and show up in the retroarch config menu (select+X). When I change those binds in-game (select+X) they revert back to original ones as soon as I go back to the game. Save config on exit doesn't seem to work and when trying to overwrite the configuration file from ingame it says it fails. It doesn't fail when editing from emulationstation level but so what as the game sees only the original binds. Has anybody had this situation? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don't enable save on exit, it will mess up your controls even more. Add your custom bindings to the system's retroarch.cfg, as explained here.

Thanks again, man. It seems I've been editing a core-specific cfg file which overrided the "all" retroarch.cfg file but I couldn't edit it from retropie, had to edit it by SSL. Now all my binds are as I want 'em.

          Thanks!
