      i guess retropie on my pi3b+ was pretty old. (i'm pretty sure it was RetroPie 4.2, and was definitely built from a pre-made SD Image on RetroPie website, probably a couple years ago.)

      i wanted to try out the x68000 emulator tonight, so i went into RetroPie Setup and went to install the experimental package lr-px68k but it wasn't in the list. so i went back and selected Update Retropie-Setup Script. after it completed i rebooted and went back into Retropie Setup. now px68k was listed in the experimental packages but the only install option was to install from source, which i did. (i also notice that when i access the RetroPie Setup now i get a message saying something about Raspbian/Debian Jessie no longer being supported, which is what i guess i have - i understand this has something to do with why install from binary is not available.)

      after it installed from source, i followed the guidance on the x68000 retropie page (https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Sharp-X68000); i.e., i copied the bios files to /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/keropi and copied a .dim rom to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/x68000 (i have the castlevania game to try). however, after restarting emulationstation i don't see an entry for x68000. i understand that even if there isn't an entry for this system in my current theme (which i think is carbon) it should still show up (per this page, step 2: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Add-a-New-System-in-EmulationStation).

      can i get this emulator running on this system, or does this have something to do with that message i'm seeing in RetroPie saying that Raspbian/Debian Jessie is no longer supported. do i have to start all over from one of the latest pre-made images? yikes - i hope not; i have a lot of roms and settings on this system.

        Did you customized/modified your es_systems.cfg ?

          i don't think so for this system. i did change the logos for megadrive and pc-engine but i don't think that's done via es_systems.cfg. should i try modifying that file to manually add x68000?

          i actually just now tried running the "Update all installed packages" option from RetroPie Setup so i think i'll be waiting a while before i can try anything else with this.

            Well, see you in a couple of days. You can check if you have a customized es_systems.cfg in \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation - if you do, that's why the new system doesn't show up.

              haha, ok. if i do have a customized es_systems.cfg, should i try manually adding x68000?

                Yes, otherwise it's not going to appear automatically. Customizing your config is ok, but any new installed systems are not added automatically to this customized config - as detailed in the Docs.

                Btw, upgrading doesn't have to be a destructive operation, you can back-up your ROM/configs/etc and transfer them to the new system. Plus, you can always backup your sdcard or - better - get a new one and transfer things over.

                  oh i think i did edit that file at some point to add Kodi as its own system instead of showing up in Ports. oops. ah i see in the Docs link you provided, thank you!

                    does this look right for the x68000 entry in es_systems.cfg?:

                        <system>
                        <fullname>Sharp X68000</fullname>
                        <name>x68000</name>
                        <path>~/RetroPie/roms/x68000</path>
                        <extension>.dim .m3u</extension>
                        <command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ x68000 %ROM%</command>
                        <platform>x68000</platform>
                        <theme>x68000</theme>
                      </system>

                      @pajordan Could be, but it's best you copy the entry from /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg, which was added automatically by the Retropie installation.

                        i got it working! this system is so cool.

                        only thing is i tried adding a logo to display in emulationstation but it's not displaying - i created a folder for x68000 in this theme (it is carbon, so i created /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/x68000) and copied a theme.xml from one of the existing subsystems into this newly created folder (i think i took the one from snes). then i created /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/x68000/art and placed my system.svg in there. (i also copied the controller.svg from the amiga subfolder and placed it in there, too). after restarting emulationstation, all that displays is a white space where i'd expect to see the x68000 logo. (the controller does display when i enter this to select my game.)

                        maybe i have a bad .svg for my logo. is there somewhere i can get one that maybe works with another theme? or is there something else i could try to get this .svg i have to display? this .svg opens up fine on my windows machine (in like a web browser or something).

                          @pajordan For the system's logo - try https://github.com/RetroPie/es-theme-carbon/pull/41.

                              You can download the modified theme from https://github.com/lilbud/es-theme-carbon. Unzip-it in \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\themes and rename it.
