I’m new here, and I’ve been struggling to find info on this issue. I have a Pi3 b+ that works flawlessly with every game I throw at it, besides Dreamcast and 64. I picked up the Pi4 8g from canakit this week and went through the setup process and tested bloody roar 2 and the audio is cutting out game is lagging and even had some issues with snes. These games run perfect on the 3b+. I’ve tried the raspberry image software first and when I couldn’t figure out the issue, I reformatted with that program and used win32 disk imager like I did with the pi3b+. Still have no luck. Am I missing something or is the pi4 hit or miss with performance? I watched ETA prime’s video on YouTube from a month ago and he shows the same game working perfectly and speaks highly of retrpie 4.6. Not sure if this is helpful, But I’m using a brand new SanDisk extreme 256g SD card. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

      Thanks

@joearcane if you have a 4k tv you should set it to run at a 1080p60 mode via raspi config > advanced settings > resolution.

@dankcushions I am using a 4K tv. Is there a trick to doing this? When I select the resolution section the screen just flashes and nothing happens, it doesn’t bring me to a section to actually select a different resolution.

@joearcane look below the resolution section. There is something roughly titled Pi4 video output settings, or something like that toward the bottom.

@MetalManTN I went in there already but it only offers 3 settings what should I select? “ Disable both 4kp60 and analog Disable 4kp60 hdmi and composite video”?

@joearcane yes, that's what I did, selected disable both and everything seems to work great now. Make sure to reboot after you select that too, because I don't think it applies until after rebooting.

@MetalManTN So I made a mistake and I decided to start fresh. I reformatted and installed the image again, and then it hit me... the retropie image installed is 4.6... I knew there was suppose to be 4.6.1 so after I booted up the first time I went into retropi setup and did the update to 4.6.1. Not only did it fix the issue with gameplay, but the audio has updated. I noticed this because the volume of my tv wasn’t change yet the in game volume was much louder. Everything seems to be running at full speed like the 3b+ retro arch frame rate is showing 60 frames when fighting in bloody roar 2. I guess now I just need to put all my games back on here and make sure everything is smooth before I start working on Dreamcast.

Thank you all for the advice. I think that internal update to 4.6.1 is all the pi4 needed.

                  Cheers!

You're not going to notice a huge difference between an 8gb Pi 4 and a 4gb Pi 4 unless you are a heavy desktop user (like me). It really can substitute for a desktop PC without major issues.

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

@VictimRLSH I figured there wasn’t much of a gain between the two. I only went with the 8g since I was jumping from a raspberry pi 3b and figured I may as well spend a little extra and have more ram. I plan to use a few different cards to experiment a bit. This wasn’t meant to replace my custom Ryzen desktop build, this is more for fun. Already setup a desktop environment last night. I’m interested in overclocking this to see how it handles different applications. I already know the overclock will definitely help in emulating Dreamcast and 64.
