.a26 vs .bin vs .zip
-
Greetings,
Just cracking the surface of all things retropie. Going to put some Atari 2600 ROMS on my pie and am curious if there's a "best" way regarding the ROM file type. I get that they all work, but if I'm going to scrape (future question I'm sure), does the online DBs expect a certain extension? Or will other consoles (snes, etc.) use .zip so it's best to standardize?
Thanks in advance!

@Dandelion welcome!
you can find out what extensions each system supports by checking our docs. for example:
atari 2600: .7z .a26 .bin .gz .rom .zip
snes: .7z .bin .bs .fig .mgd .sfc .smc .swc .zipnot all consoles use zip, etc, so you can't really standardize, and it shouldn't matter anyway as scrapers should typically handle all these extensions.
