      First off, the required info...

Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 4b
Power Supply used: not exactly sure, but made by Anker so I trust it
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.6.9
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, retropie-buster-4.6-rpi4.img
      USB Devices connected: none
      Controller used: DualShock 4
      Error messages received: none
      Verbose log (if relevant): n/a
      Guide used: none
File: (File with issue - with FULL path), n/a, at least not yet, anyway
      Emulator: Every one I've tried
Attachment of config files: will give these if asked, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that and it's a simple fix because the problem is in the chair
How to replicate the problem: attempt to access the RGUI menu, or any of the Hotkey + whatever features.

I'm sure this is simple. And, I tried to find the solution on my own, but I wasn't exactly sure what to search for. All my searches turned up issues where the hotkey wasn't working at all, and not my specific problem, so my apologies and please forgive me if I should have found this on my own.

Okay, now, finally, to the problem...

I have no idea what I did to cause this. But, now, every time I try to do hotkey + anything, I am unable to. I press the hotkey, and before I have the opportunity to press a button with it, it reacts as if I hit hotkey + x, giving me the rgui menu. I try to fight through that, just doing hotkey + start to exit a game, for example, and it won't work. The hotkey + x menu is just there, and I have to navigate to what I want to do the long way.

Again, wasn't really sure exactly what search terms to use (or there's just nothing there), so I tried going through the procedure of readding my controller and mapping the buttons. That did not have any effect on the problem.

I tried renaming my configs/all/retroarch.cfg file, rebooting the retropie, starting an emulator, and trying again, thinking that a fresh retroarch.cfg file would be created and fix the problem...no effect.

I drilled through all the menus and all the settings, looking for something that might set this right again. The only thing I saw that looked remotely close to me is that the input driver was set to x. My controller says the driver is udev. So, I set that input driver to udev. No effect. I was going to put it back to x, but the system somehow automatically beat me to it.

So, I'm at a loss as to what to try now. I REALLY don't want to start my pi over; I put a lot of work into this. If I have to live it it the way it is I guess I will, but I'd REALLY like the default hotkey + behavior to return.

Thanks in advance for any help.

bad move. retroarch.cfg is customised by retropie. you don’t want one that retroarch has generated. you need to undo that change.

        do that, then

        Choose Manage Packages.
        Choose Manage Core Packages.
        Choose emulationstation (Installed)
Choose Configurations / Options (it may also be named Configurations Tools)
Choose the option to Clear/Reset Emulation Station input configuration.
Choose Yes to proceed to clear the controller settings.

now when you reboot you will be able to rebind your controller, hotkey and all.

@dankcushions Oh, I already undid that change. That's why I renamed the file rather than deleted it. That way, can just rename it back.

@dankcushions I thank you for the suggestion, but it did not have the desired effect. The hotkey by itself is still acting as if I pressed hotkey + x.

@Amishgamer please upload your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg, and a verbose log as per https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

@dankcushions Here is my retroarch.cfg file. The verbose will come later when I have a couple of minutes to sit down with my Retropie

@dankcushions Well, I attempted to get you the verbose logs, and I discovered another symptom...when launching any emulator now, when I try to hit A to get the run command menu, I get no response; just goes right into the game as if I hadn't pressed anything. Very frustrating.

try other buttons. just mash everything :)

that looks like you’ve saved over the retroarch.cfg that retropie provides as it should be much shorter. however i don’t see anything that causes your problem at a glance. the verbose log should help.

@dankcushions Did that, no effect. I'll google to see how else I can get a verbose log, but last time I didn't see anything.
