Well seemed that if I run another disk image, my first solution would not work anymore. So you actually had to boot twice if the huma68k wasn't remembered by the emulator. Also I had to change those files. So I figured there must be a better way. So I was thinking perhaps this emulator will also work with .cmd files. And it did! Turns out this is also explained in the libretro docs, for this emulator. So there you have it.
EDIT : I always know from my experience and my guts where i have look, isn't it amazing ;-)

@folly This thread is turning into a proper mine of information on obscure Japanese machines! ^^
Are you planning on setting up any more systems on your end?

In theory, this is what we should do (but I don't know if I am up to it):
- make a fork of Retropie-setup
- read all our thread stuff from the beginning
- add support for the things we discovered
- do a pull request for the updated scripts
- edit the retropie docs
Are you planning on setting up any more systems on your end?
Ofcourse it never stops. :)
-
@Zering When are you going to try the solution ?
-
@folly Honestly I don't know! I'm heads deep in PC98 and FM Towns stuff. I've actually managed to play games today ^^ Tomorrow I need to try and see if my Saturn CHDs will work on Yabasanshiro and if they do then I'll be back where I was - so a couple of days at least.
I don't mind going through the thread and make a comprehensive list of all the stuff we've figured out. Maybe we could even make a separate thread based on those solutions? ^^
You should get the FM and Sharp MZ series set up on your system. ^^

OK, I understand.
Try those systems if I have the time. -
@folly I've got the wrong file here but your solution is great and I've amended my Autoexec.bat in readiness for finding the correct file. Mine was a .HDS not an .HDF.

Found this awesome looking game for the Towns and now I'm dying to try it.
It appears to be exclusive to the system. I'm hoping that unlike Alltynex this one works ^^

Good luck, Zering!
On Die Banhwelt, I found a translate disk set so thought I'd try that. It's set to MIDI music so there is no music! Arggg. So frustrating.
@Folly - there is an intro disk as well, I think you use "Opening" or something similar rather than BW, it doesn't run if you just load the game normally. Not on floppy anyway, but maybe on yours it does.
Edit: Oh, maybe I can change the MIDI music with the A and B menu. Not sure where that leaves me with my intro disk though... Unless that also has that menu option. I wish I wasn't in bed now, or that I could have just found the Hard Drive version.
Further Edit: I got out of bed. It works! Changing the music through the A and B menu in the main game also sorts out the intro, changing it to internal sound. Superb.

Just played this awesome game on the PC98.
I particularly love the scan lines, which remind me of the PC88.
There's also a Burning Dragon Plus, with increased difficulty, better presentation, slightly different gameplay and coop multiplayer. -

I completed Alone in the Dark, the old PC game, earlier. 28 years after I first played it!

@adambegood I confess the only AITD game I ever played was the New Nightmare on PS1, which I thought was a massive letdown. It does a lot right but it's tedious, unfair and annoying.
Funnily enough I was just reflecting that Alone in the dark is one of the games I have on the most platforms. It's even on the PC98. -

Funnily enough I was just reflecting that Alone in the dark is one of the games I have on the most platforms. It's even on the PC98.I was only 10 when I played it so I wasn't very good! I've downloaded the Trilogy and intend to get through them all to make up for my younger self's short-comings.
I never played New Nightmare. I have the PSP version to look at though.
-
@adambegood It's a gorgeous game, oozing with atmosphere. But respawning enemies should not be a thing in a game with tight ammo management.
Is the first one still worth playing? It's always looked fairly antiquated to me but I've never actually tried it.Edit : Tatsujin Ou is awesome, pretty sure it's going to turn out to be one of the best games on the Towns.
Moving on to something goofy now, like Ultima Underworld on a Japanese computer ^^ -
@zering So Tatsujin worked? That is good.
Erm, is AITD worth playing? It was for me, but I don't know how it would be for someone coming to it fresh. It's pretty clunky, in terms of look and controls.
It's very short though, if you play it with a walkthrough it only takes an hour. It scared the s*** out of me when I was 10! It's still interesting I think.
-
@adambegood Yep, Tatsujin ran pretty good, albeit with a few little performance issues - easily overlooked though. I've just realized it's actually an arcade game initially, Truxton 2. Supposedly the FM Towns version is the only home release.
I tried playing the Ultima Trilogy, which is english-friendly and far better-looking and sounding than most computer versions of the games from the same era, but it requires the mouse to launch and we all know that the mouse in MESS is a nightmare. I'll look into it later. Ultima Underworld launched, but it hung on a black screen after the first two logos.
I think I may skip on AITD for the moment then ; it looks a fair bit intimidating. -
@zering Ahhh okay, I have Truxton 2. I played it the other day actually.
I've translation patched Valis II and Star Cruiser on the X68000 today, and downloaded Galseed. I hear there is a Galseed 2 but I am struggling to find it. I've got a meeting now but I will try again later.
Good luck with the mouse problem. I remember Ultima Underworld on the PC, I had that when I was very young.
Edit: Galseed II is on a V4 HD image I can find, but actually pulling it out of there doesn't seem much fun. I will watch YouTube and see if it looks worth the effort.
Further Edit: Found some more dead links for Galseed II. Found some more good shooters while I've been looking though - Galseed 1 and Xadlak especially
-
@adambegood Galseed II is in the NEo Kobe collection, under Doujin.

LOL. I've been looking around so much! I'll have a look in a mo.
