ROM updates very slow to register in RetroPie

Hi all,
Does anyone know why my Pi400 takes multiple restarts to register ROM updates on my memory stick?
Parse gamelists is off, yet if I add / remove a ROM it does not register. The same with adding new ROMS. The relevant emulator doesnt appear on the splash screen for multiple restarts, and then randomly it will appear a day or so later. My Amstrad games took 2 days to appear!Cheers!
