Forum Tournament Round 1: Just a little fun

Not trying to flood the forums with threads (though it seems like it).

This weekend, I'd like some honest MAME competition with some of you on here. If you are an old fart like me and are really into games like Ms. Pac-Man, Dig-Dug, Mario Bros., etc... Just post here. Be honest about your scores. Post screen shots if you want.

I did this at the Tron-Sector forums back in the early millennium and we had a blast. I'm not really a great player but it's fun to keep a local highscore count and try to top it. It's really fun.

If you are interested, just name a game and let's all check in and play it. Starts Saturday and we'll end it Sunday and top score holder gets bragging rights. :)

Must be played on a Raspberry Pi and must be MAME.

I think we need a few more ground-rules for this friendly Phoenix contest. I'd like to propose a few, and see if they're acceptable to everyone.

a. Only original Amstar or licensed Centuri or Taito roms should be accepted. No bizarre versions or bootlegs.
b. Must have dip switches set for 3 lives per credit (not 4-6).

That's all I can think of.

great idea! this game is harsh.. the shield effect seems to have a bit of a warm up, as you can hear the sound and see the effect and still be hit if you do it at the last moment :(

I agree. Let's make some official rules.

Amstar, Centuri and Taito are acceptable.
Only 3 lives allow per game.
No cheats. This is for fun, not to build selfish egos. Don't be retarded, don't cheat.
MAME only. I was going to just make this exclusive to Retropie, but since some of our friends are having issues with setting up MAME, then Linux/Win/DOS/Mac will be allowed. However, you must state what system you are playing because I'm going to put these in different high score brackets. I shouldn't have to explain why, but this is what it will look like by Sunday.

Screen shots to verify score. Preferably with your camera phone, but since that can be a pain in the butt for some, a screen shot is acceptable.
Don't troll. Some of us are going to suck but we don't care because this is really just for fun.
Pausing is acceptable. Sometimes the wife screams because she's demonically possessed.

Anyone that wants to suggest some rules, or change the ones before the tournament starts, please post soon.

I keep getting this game confused with 'Demon' (Atari 2600) for some reason. Phoenix isn't easy... and I like that. I'm going to suck at this but I love just joining in on the fun. :)

Tournament started. Play as many time you like. Try to take a pic of your highest score. You can post at any time. Sometime on Sunday, let's find out who has placed in what position. I won't even be on the top ten. lol.. but I'm playing like crazy.

Next weekend, lets decide what game we want to play next.

I gave it a shot, but after about 20. attempts I was filled with anger and frustration ;). I couldn't even get pass 4000 points.

Bottom line: I'm too old for this sh*t :D
