8Bitdo Zero configuration
-
I had similar problems with the zero, tried all the different modes to start the controller but it would map as a keyboard and the buttons wouldnt work.
I ended up using 8bit zero tools 1.4 (not 1.5) in windows to reset the pad back to defaults. http://forum.8bitdo.com/thread-1131-1-1.html
Its worked fine since, i dont recall what firmware version im on though -
I don't have a Windows PC so I'll download a VM and try that. Thank you

Might want to try a basic reset through the pad first (hold start for 8 seconds from off i think). I believe the zero only supports reprogramming via bluetooth (usb is charge only). I've never tried getting a bluetooth adapter working from a VM so can't advise further on that sorry.

@eekfonky sorry the dumb question: are you using a Bluetooth dongle on your raspi zero?
I'm used to use my 8bitdo Zero in my RetroPie (raspi1 and raspi2 with a bluetooth dongle). Some points about it:
- I turn on the controller with R+Start.
- Use the bluetooth tool from RetroPie menu to pair/connect it for the first time.
- I have to configure the buttons in emulationstation it with "8bitdo hack" turned on.
- Sometimes it doesn't pair automatically, then I go to the bluetooth tool in RetroPie menu and choose "Connect now to all registered devices".

@meleu I'm using a https://redbear.cc/

@eekfonky are you sure that it's working? Maybe the problem isn't with the joystick...
-
@meleu yes, I bought th3 NES30 Pro and it works like a charm
-
@eekfonky Are you turning on your 8bitdo zero with R+Start?
When I turn on mine with only Start it acts like a keyboard, therefore the emulationstation doesn't detect the joystick (it's a keyboard).

@meleu ah, I'll try that. Thank you

@AmigaGamer Seems this post is quite old, but I couldn't find other related post yet.
I encountered exactly same problem with you but I can't get this 8bitdo zero tool because official homepage has renewed. Do you still have the tool? If you don't mind, May I ask you to upload that tool on mirror?
